  You need to limit your exposure to how much work you do on "good faith". Offer a small sample of what you can do then get a retainer that you will give 50% back upon them placing an order with you. Depends on product and market. Small DYI products do well here in the northeast and some larger ticket items for home BUT we have found them to be more work then pay off.  You must be firm and make them understand the value or your relationship with them. We let them know that it keeps our cost low and therefore their costs low by paying in a timely fashion. If you need to chase,then that adds cost which in turn raises prices. Simple economics....  OR just show up...
