About Us

I help small businesses tell their stories online through building websites for them, managing the technical side of their WordPress websites and helping them learn more about how to create and manage a website that’s going to help their business grow in today’s digital world.

How We Got Started

Storytelling has always been something that I’ve been passionate about.

It started early as I would always read the sports stories in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram each morning. Then it migrated its way towards actually writing those stories as I worked my way through The Daily Texan sports section while attending the University of Texas.

And then with the digital age it has continued to migrate to telling the stories of people and businesses through their websites.

Whether it’s creating a WordPress plugin or theme that someone can grab and use in their own way on their site or working with a business to craft a website that fits their needs, I love the challenge of finding a way to tell a story online.

As someone who has great art ideas but can’t draw worth anything, I remember the first time I created something “cool” on the web using just lines of code. And I love giving business owners that same experience when creating their own website.

That's going to really be your online home for your digital marketing efforts. You can place a lead generation form to get prospective clients and grow the business. It doesn't have to be anything fancy just to get started. You just need something up online so that you can start to show up in Google searches, getting leads, etc. And then once you're up and going you can start to add more to the website.

I personally love Genesis and their StudioPress themes. Works great for both developers and regular users and great documentation. Not exactly sure how the price compares to Divi and other page builders, but I think it's worth it. (more) I personally love Genesis and their StudioPress themes. The general consensus (at least among us web developers) is to stagger the payments and make them due after certain milestones. So for me, a third of the payment would be due after the "discovery" process and before the design stage, another third due between design and development and then the rest due before the site goes live. It spreads out the price and keeps the client engaged and hopefully helpful, particularly with content.

I know some people just want to have a Facebook page or what not for their organization, but the fact of the matter is that a webpage is something everyone can see and you own it and don't have to worry about Facebook messing with it. Plus, as someone said before, it gives you credibility and Google can index it so you can be found in searches. In short, even a very basic (but clean) website can only help grow your charity or organization.

If you're having trouble finding an SSL certificate that works with your budget, Let's Encrypt is a great resource. It offers free SSL certificates. The only catch is that the certificate needs to be renewed every three months. I know my host, WP Engine, automatically renews it for me, but some hosts do not. So just be heads up about that. I've found it to be a really good solution if you're in a pinch for SSL.

I also have some web development tips for fellow web developers. I think for small businesses, it helps to blog about your experiences, the experiences of your customers (case studies are awesome content) and even news related to your business.

Fix the images so they aren't so stretched. And blogging more will be an easy way to help SEO and convince people to buy from you. The biggest other thing I see is the text on the about page is almost unreadable for a guy with perfect eyesight. The gray with the thin font weight makes it really, really hard to see and read. I would change the color to a darker color, add some weight to the font or do both. But otherwise it's a well done website. Good job!

If you're going to use white as the color for links on titles and in the sidebar, then the links in the post need to be white not blue. The blue seems to come out of nowhere. Otherwise it's a really good site that loads fast.

A good website design should be clean, clear with it's message and/or story, have a consistent color theme, generally be attracting to the eye and set up to optimize SEO as much as it can.
