How We Got Started

I was trained as a teacher in college, but somehow History and English did not suit me as fields I could work in. I taught juvenile delinquents in a high school alternative setting and I even taught math in the county prisons. Eventually, I tried my hand at sales and found that I had an affinity for it. A few years later I joined Liberty Mutual Insurance and my career began.

(more) I am assuming that this is a home care provider that is not an insurance agency selling home care health products. If this is the case then I would suggest getting some help from the people who will pay for your services. Contact Medicare, Social Security Disability, the Veterans Administration and any of the  Nurse Associations. Here is why: When a patient comes to you and asks for help (usually a spouse or child of the patient) he is going to be limited by the dollars he can spend for your services. You want to find out what the agencies are going to pay you in terms of the patients care. Once you have this information you can build a business plan. I don’t suggest putting the cart before the horse. You can hire all the best people but if you can’t pay them you are out of business. Most patients are not going to have the income to pay for the services that you want to provide. If they do I would guess that they would be in the minority. Here is another thought: call around to established agencies like you want to set up. Pick some brains and ask them what they did. Don’t call local agencies. You will be their competition. Call out of the area, or county, or state. Call Home Care Organizations that will give you some idea help, too. Before you can start a business you have to do your homework.  It’s easier to move paper then it is to move people. Good luck, Elliot E.S. Yaro & Associates.

I show them where I live who my wife and kids are, sports teams I like and activities we do together. Then I talk about them and their family. Now we are having a conversation and I haven't even opened the conversation to what I was there to discuss. In my business ( life insurance) I have a simple thought. Don't buy the product if you can't afford it. "Don't let me sell you something that is too much for you to handle" I tell them. I emphasize that we are all on a budget. By telling them not to buy something because I am looking out for their well being, they feel that they are dealing with an honest person. They know me and my family and I am trying to help them satisfy their needs based on their budget not mine.  I find that it works well. All the best, Elliot. ESYaro & Associates 954-260-3144

I never did much in the Medicare Market but I adjusted that by joining a company that specialized in Medicare. This opened many other avenues of business to me.  I have discovered  Section 162 of the IRS Code which allows Owners of corporations to deduct personal life insurance premiums from the company by simply giving the owners and key persons a salary bonus. The personal taxes paid on the bonus could be 70% less then the premium they would be normally paying. This technique provides a "golden handcuff" to keep key people working for the company. It's been very exciting to see happy business owners smiling that the IRS did something nice for them. In a nutshell, 2019 has been good to me and my family. We look forward to even greater things in 2020. All the best in the New Year Elliot Yaro  ESYaro & Associates

For example a store owner who only stays in his store will get less customers than one who goes out to lunch at various local restaurants and meets the owners there, or attends rotary or other networking meetings. When you see people face to face you have their attention. If you talk about "them" not yourself( at the beginning) you have their interest. You can't break down new barriers by walking into a place a saying "Hi my name is Bill, let me tell you about myself and my business!" How would you react to someone who did that? Not with open inviting arms. However try "Hi My name is Bill I just moved in down the block. You have a real nice place here. How long have you been in this town?" You got his attention. He talks and then he is almost obligated to ask you "so what do you do Bill?" Now you've got him. That is the beginnings of a business conversation.  This technique can be used almost anywhere. In my business one thing I do is to knock on doors. If you have something interesting to say its really hard to hang up on you when you are standing there face to face. I hope the thoughts help. Good Luck! Elliot

I send out my companies heartfelt thoughts for your predicament. while I can't advise you on that, I can give a word of advice for all mom and pop as well as businesses transferring ownership due to retirement. Think Business Life Insurance. Also called funded Buy-Sell agreements, keyperson insurance or replacement income plans these instruments will save heartaches, provide income and allow for cash to flow into the business. If you like your business why would you let it die for lack of funding? If you have to replace your partner you will need money to do that. Don't take out a note from the bank, don't pay high interest have a life insurance plan pay for it tax free. I hope all goes well for you in the future.  All the best, Elliot from Es Yaro& Associates

(more) Hi Steve, The times to call a person is different than the time to call a company. Most companies are going to be available from 8-5 or 6pm. It depends on who you want to speak to. If you are trying for the owner of the company the earlier the better. It is more difficult if he comes in late to work. I am going to suggest that his office manager might be a better person to get a message to the boss. I have found that when I send an email to the company the owner doesn't always get it. His secretary opens his mail. To reach the owner it is almost easier to stop in and try to make an appointment with him about the topic you are presenting. Two problems. One he might not see you (most of the time that's true) Two, you might go for the "I don't want to see him but when would the best time be to speak with him about_____". I noticed that you work the mortgage protection Market. That tells me that you want to speak with new or refinanced home owners. Here in Florida, people use their phones as a screening device. It is very difficult to get through. You might try calling, getting the tape message, hang up and redial. Do that 3 times in succession-Maybe it will work for you. For me, not so much. I find going over to the house and knocking on the door to be more satisfying. You can do that cold or with a lead. Most agents hate that way of prospecting, but if it works why not. Phone call times are either in the morning early or at night up to 9pm. I hate to call around dinner time People get really antsy about having that meal interrupted. It's like interrupting a dog with his bone. You might get your leg bitten. Do people forget that they asked for information? Yes they do. I have taken a lead with the prospects signature, knocked on the door and had to argue with them that the signature is theirs. Just incredible. In Vegas perhaps the phones work well. In Florida not so much. If you want to work the phones, get a large stack of leads, clear your desk and begin dialing. If you hit the voice mail block don't get discouraged. Put those on the side, at the end of the session arrange them geographically and the next day and plan a day in the field. If you knock on the door the worst that can happen is no one is at home. But if you get them in -you're a winner!  All the best, Elliot

(more) “Start  your own business and build your own hours, see your wife and  children more, earn what you are worth, don’t be chained to a time clock – you’re the boss!” Sound familiar? It rang so true to me. I was certain that this was the way I wanted to live. No one was going to tell me what to do and how much I could earn. I was perfectly capable of making my own decisions and moving in the right direction. So I started my own property and casualty agency. I didn’t care about life insurance. I knew it existed but I had no interest in it. I wanted to provide good auto and homeowners service. I believed that if I could build that part of the agency then I could go after the health insurance plans (major medical) that paid good commission as well.  Let’s take a look at the year that all began- 1975. Wow! Who knew that things were going to turn upside down. The Banks and Insurance companies and Investment companies all merging and everyone was selling everyone else’s products. I stayed with the industry until it got to be too much for me and I left in the 1980’s. I returned in 2014 because retirement was just around the corner. Suddenly, I had an epiphany. Life and health Insurance was the area that would give me a higher commission, and more of an ability to help people. Did you notice that my passion has always been to help people? I began with life insurance moved into the Medicare Health Market and now I am branching again into College Scholarship Funding for Everyone.  More ways to help people. Time for a commercial. If you have children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews or unborns that you know will want to go to college or your going to make sure they get to college “have I got a deal for you!” Sage Scholarship for everyone. About 400 private colleges and universities giving 25% off tuition for 4 years. No financial requirements no special skills (sports, music etc) Just get accepted by the school that you choose in the future. Yes there are “catches” but no they are not money related to paying the school or paying a fund or anything like that. Think of Frequent Flyer Miles but it has nothing to do with airlines just the concept. It’s an accumulation of points. Ask me about it. My passion is helping people and now I can help the kids, too. Isn’t having a passion wonderful! All the best, Elliot.
