I too would rather write a check directly to the charity, or visit their website to give. Giving out emails and trusting Facebook just has too much risk.

If you just want body count, then food and drink will bring them out. If you want people who will engage and pay attention, then you need a topic framed in the audiences interest. There must be something in it for them clearly stated up front.
