(more) I've been seeing this all over the internet lately or maybe it's because my son is starting his sophomore year in high school so we are talking about college a lot.  First off I would say this.  Do not in any respect pay 150,000 for college that is a ridiculous amount of money unless s/he is going to become a doctor.  If your kid can't take AP classes then go to a local community college and let him live at home for free.  Transfer to a larger 4 year college.  No reason to spend 600 on meal plans or 900 dollars a month on a dorm room.  I'm not paying for my kid to party.   Go to an in-state school Get scholarships Have him/her pay for their own living expenses (sorry time to get a job son) Know that no matter what job you get out of college it will not be the same place you end up in 10 years so get a generic degree unless they are interested in specific STEM careers. 2nd if my son is hell-bent on starting a business I would have him follow this methodology and give him 500 bucks to start and 6 months of free rent at home. https://www.reddit.com/r/Entrepreneur/comments/apaahf/how_to_turn_500_into_a_lot_more_lawn_care/ If he couldn't pay himself after that I'd tell him to close up shop and get a job or go back to school. If he was successful sell the business and start something else or make it grow.   Take the difference in the $100 - $150,000 and put it away for my retirement etc..... If that was completely covered it's time for me to look at retirement ;)
