ACCESS TO DENTAL CARE SHOULD NOT DEPEND ON A DISABILITY.

Across the country, children and adults with autism, developmental disabilities, sensory needs, complex medical conditions, and other support needs are struggling to find dental professionals who can safely and appropriately care for them.

Families are being told:

• “We don’t have the staff to accommodate them.”• “We aren’t equipped for their needs.”• “You’ll need to travel somewhere else.”• “The wait is months—or even longer.”

Meanwhile, cavities become infections, pain becomes emergencies, families miss work, travel hours for appointments, and sometimes end up in emergency rooms for problems that should have been treated much earlier.

This is bigger than one family. This is a national access-to-care problem.

Ability Village is asking families, caregivers, dental professionals, advocates, educators, and community members to stand together and help bring attention to this issue.
