It's very interesting how this article is based on a poll from May of this year because a lot has changed since July that would most likely result in very different numbers if the poll was run again today.  Just my 2 cents... :-) (more) It's very interesting how this article is based on a poll from May of this year because a lot has changed since July that would most likely result in very different numbers if the poll was run again today.  Just my 2 cents... :-)

It's human nature to choose what's more convenient over what's more secure.  One way to address the issue is training.  Not just a single training session, but more of an on-going process to ensure owners/users are up to date with the ever-changing cyber landscape. Simply put, small companies/businesses need to learn to adapt their technology tools to work for them instead of adapting their businesses to their technology tools.  Not easy to do without proper training, but a must-have nevertheless. I second what Ken Kollar submitted, especially employee training because all of the security in the world isn't enough to keep someone from clicking a link or attachment if they aren't trained properly in the first place. Same as we do at client sites: hardware/software firewalls, ids, anti-virus/anti-malware on servers and user machines, file/folder auditing, complex passwords/phrases (different for each device/account), and user training. While you've provided us with an initial description of your setup and what you're looking for, there are too many variables that affect your operational and business needs, especially when dealing with a database, remote access, a server that needs replacing, etc... Additional things to consider are network and end point security, system performance, and disaster recovery (i.e., is your redundant backup system local, offsite, or both?).  If I were in your position I would reach out to three local IT service providers and ask for quotes/proposals based on your stated needs, and don't be afraid to ask for clear (non-tech) language.  If nothing else, you'll end up learning some new things about your environment that should help you make better decisions regarding your current and future technology needs. Just my 2 cents... ;-)

It depends on the operational needs and on-hand technical expertise of the organization.  Each one may be prioritized differently depending on the organization so there's no simple way to answer this question without knowing more about the organization actual requirements.
