How We Got Started

After producing cinematic styled work in the B2C space, again and again, we saw that businesses were both overpaying and being under served. Organizations were stuck paying 20,000-100,000 for something we could do for less than half their original budgets and more importantly do it with better results.

(more) Many businesses fail because they think another machine in their factory is what they need - when in reality they need more orders for their existing factory line.   It's easy to say "marketing" is key - because it kinda is. Without sales - you don't have a business. The problem is that without a scaleable marketing process in place that can generate a positive ROI - you may have sales but not enough in the timeframe you need to cover your expenses as a business. If a business isn't clear on its branding strategy - it's marketing messages will be wasted. More importantly - their marketing budget will be wasted.  Example: - spend $1000, you generate $1001. "profitable" right? If you generate enough profit - you can still go out of business.  - spend $1000, you generate $2000. This is much more ideal. One way you can turn around an ad campaign is to refine your messaging - and that's by telling a better story. That's why as a video production company, we don't recommend any company invest in marketing unless they 1) Know their unfair advantage 2) Know why they are the best 3) Know who their ideal customer is 4) Has existing sales with super fans When you know who your ideal customer is, you know their needs, you know why they are picking you, you know who your testimonials will come from... It's a lot easier to expand and generate a positive ROI - with meaningful numbers to grow your business operation. Getting clear on your branding strategy so that you can tell a Better Brand Story™  enables you to turn around more of your marketing activities into positive ROI / profitable activities. I've purchased a drone through them, extra batteries, an additional charger, and have had them help me when I needed some repair on the drone controller due to a failed chip inside it.

Request that they reply so you know they get your email - then over 6 months or 12 see if they have any new hires that need photos. Photography is an ongoing need as each new employee needs photos - quarterly reports - new locations - new equipment - all are opportunities for photos of some sort if it matches their marketing / PR agenda.I've found video production to be slightly more challenging as many of the traditional marketing channels don't integrate video - and having come from a photography background I can add that video can be a much larger investment time wise (ie. $$). I'm trying the same question but for video production here on Alignable - perhaps someone in a different industry will have some insight as well!

It will continue to become more and more expensive to pay-and-promote your content as it will become more competitive. That said - authentic voice will have grown to be more critical. It's interesting to see trends shift back and forth between our desire to business with real people and our disdain of actually interacting with people (think: self checkout for your introverted loved one). In businesses that are more personal (think: investment planner, doctor, therapist) you want to see the realness of them as a professional. With that as your foundation - the tool to get you there becomes less and less important. Being so many forms of social media can be integrated - posting content becomes easy as it's posted everywhere. When customers love YOU as a brand - they follow you wherever you go. That is, of course, assuming you own the platform or they are truly raving fans. Think: what if every retail mall banned Apple stores overnight. Would it ruin Apple sales? Or would the vast majority of customers find their new location not-in-a-mall and map their way there to buy whatever has that pretty chrome Apple logo on it?

All that aside - being in the marketing industry and advising businesses all the time on digital marketing - I'm often challenging people to think about their customer first. Above all the 'hot trends' and 'what's working in 2017' - what matters most is your customer's user experience. On a fundamental level it goes to their story as a customer. If your customer is an 80 year old lady living in her own home, then she's probably not watching a lot of Youtube video ads like we create at Provid Films. Her struggles with plumbing are A) who can solve her plumbing problem and B) who is located near her able to help.Same industry - different customer: let's say you're a plumbing tools manufacturing company looking for plumbers who want to buy your tools. You struggle to explain and show the subtle differences between your wrench and the competitors since in a photo they look very similar. Sure, you can say with words that yours is lighter - more durable - has a better warranty - and is preferred in blind surveys. You're still in the plumbing industry - but your client is a younger professional familiar with the internet and business world - seeing an ad in the yellow pages will never result in a sale nearly as well as a custom video that showcases those features with a pleasant and eye opening visual presentation. If you can touch your customer's heart - their desire to feel less sore at the end of the day and how if their tools helped them be more efficient would result in finishing early enough to go home to have dinner with their family - that's a story that sells.Key Lesson - understand first who your customer is and learn their story. Print's not dead - but it's no longer the holy grail. Travis Johansen - Video Producer at www.ProvidFilms.com
