The technology offers amazing promise but my assessment is that for most present day application it remains uneconomical.
With the exception of few industries such as automotive and aerospace design the cost for the hardware and licencing/developing custom softwares puts the service outside of the competitive price range.
This is all specific to augmented reality however. Virtual reality still proves to be very accessible and cost effective.
For most companies looking to being on any sort of consultant, it always comes down to the dollar.
As much as your services may bring value to employee or the company as a whole it will be hard to close any deal unless the leadership is confident about the ROI.

When next you are closing and submitting your price, be sure to quantify the cost in a creative manner than can display credible metrics on the ROI. Without this the service is a risk.
