How We Got Started
Self-taught after finding his muse during a 2001 trip to South Africa, Mike Handley of Montgomery, Ala., has bought enough blank canvas to push the Nina, Pinta and the Santa Maria across the Atlantic.
In the 18 years since first painting a group of AIDS orphans dancing around a campfire, this career storyteller-turned-artist has gained a huge following. His works have been featured on the covers of books and magazines, and the original paintings often sell within minutes of being posted on social media.
His subjects include wildlife, landscapes, people, vintage automobiles and barns.
