Google PageSpeed Insights: This checks the load speed of your site on both mobile and desktop devices and gives you suggestions on how to solve the issues.

We use Omada Theme from Omada Marketing Group. It is a theme built more for developers. In most cases it does not require any plugins as they have built in slideshows, testimonials, staff, analytics, seo, caching systems, security, forms and more internal plugins that can easily be enabled and disabled. The theme also has both header and footer builders allowing you to select which ones you want to use per page and set defaults speeding up the time it takes to theme the site. They have also created many blocks allowing you to create custom pages such as accordions, tabs, rows and much more. The theme is built on the Foundation 6 Framework allowing use of all the features they offer. We have been using this theme for years.

If you are attending a networking event you are expecting to learn about other organizations, products and services in your community. I am much more likely to spend my money locally with a handshake rather than with someone over the net or phone claiming to be in the US.

We use Godaddy. Not only do you get the best customer service but they have volume discounts if you have enough domains. We also use WHM which can connect to Godaddy for managing our domain sales automatically.

We use carbonite to backup all our company files. We have it set to store the last 10 backups to any document.
We also have all our computers setup with raid drives and external backup drives as client information is not stored on the cloud.

It is also important to make sure you have your website and online files/databases backed up. Our hosting servers backup out site every 24 hours and we download a local copy of our site every 7 days which is then backed up with the computer files.

You have a few options depending on the purpose of the site and your budget.
Web Development Firm: You can hire a company to professionally design and develop your site. This would get you the best results in the search engines and would lead to more customers finding you on the web. As a developer I know I will always suggest this one as you would expect but we do know what we are doing and will provide you with what you need.
Site Builder: There are many companies that have drag and drop style builders that make it easy for those without programming skills. Some of the best companies are Wix, Godaddy site builder, Square Space or Weebly. These sites do not show up very well in the search results if at all. This type of site is ok for starting out if you are just looking to have a site.
Self Programmed: There are many sites where you can learn to program like codecademy. You can either create a site from scratch or look into a CMS like WordPress or Opencart if your are looking for ecommerce. These sites turn out ok but take a ton of time away from your business.
Social Media: This is a great method for those with a small budget. Creating a Facebook fan page can help get your name out there. You can also make posts about products which you can advertise across their platform.
No matter what your selection above, it is always worth getting a quote from a couple web development companies. Weigh the cost of the site against the amount of time it will take you to create the site and what you could be doing with that time.

I find many companies that do not have access to their site/hosting. We suggest to everyone that they purchase their domain name themselves through GoDaddy or other company at the very least. I also tell companies to be weary of developers that use proprietary content management systems. My company only uses open source software and gives all copyrights to our clients. Always make sure you own your files and not just your content. It is also important to make sure you have a backup of your site. If you make frequent changes be sure to backup at least once a month. A good developer will provide a free backup upon request. Be sure this backup is emailed or sent to you and not just stored on the server. Finally if you run into an issue recovering your site CWDG has many tools which can assist in recovering your site.
We have been working with WordPress for over 10. I would be happy to work with you. I would however suggest to wait for the new version of WordPress to be released before looking at new designs. With the release of their new content editor there may be issues with existing themes.

We simply provide a guaranteed project quote which allows you to properly provide a final price to your client. Being a central Wisconsin company our rates are much lower than much of he country.
