It's a win-win!
Don't waste people's time. These days many are clamoring for attention by flooding the Internet with useless dribble. If we are going to put ourselves out there, we must have something important to share or we'll do more harm than good to ourselves AND our business.

I work for amazing, creative clients, so I keep a close watch on what they say AND do. We've been dealing with clients via phone and the Internet for many years, actually. So currently, I just keep on doing what I've been doing. It hasn't changed much. We are currently "out of season," so we get a lot done during the summer months. Right now, I'm getting caught up with social media. In the height of our season, I admit I'm immersed in working with clients and social media takes a back seat. I love speaking with my clients on the phone. We not only discuss jobs, but we share industry "stuff," and they are very generous! It's a way to really get to know them, too--it's upfront and in-your-face networking (without the face)!

Protocol's financial success depends on completion of the type of work that we do--mainly TV commercials & print work. A typical booking requires a mix of professions such as models, actors, the client & art director, photographer, videographer, makeup, hair and wardrobe stylists, and additional crew, as well. It's a busy atmosphere. And food is served on-set, so we rub elbows with many people all day, every day. Ad agencies and production companies take on a huge responsibility as they work with people. One mishap can have a devastating impact on the future of their companies. I understand their hesitance as they contemplate the pros & cons of moving forward as originally planned on projects that were created months ago. As a talent agent, I've experienced a drop in the # of bookings AND the cancellation of multiple bookings for the last several weeks. It IS a cause for concern, since we, too, have a season. We are losing work that bankrolls us for our typical slow months--April through August. But I'm an optimist. I wake up happy, and I go to bed happy. I can drive some people a little crazy if I'm not careful, and I know who you are! So I'm taking this CoronaVirus "thing" one day at a time. If we plan properly, we can still go to work and produce IF we use some common sense. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!!!

My first educational handbook would be titled Erasing Failure (in our schools). \My purpose? To light a fire in the hearts and minds of teachers everywhere. The ultimate goal --all students experience success throughout their educational experience. The content would be loaded with creative ideas for teachers to implement in order to encourage and inspire students to actively participate in the learning process. The classroom would become a positive educational environment which ultimately breeds a favorable outcome.

Fortunately, I don't find this a major problem. First, I work with reputable clients who pay in a timely fashion. And, we are accustomed to not being paid immediately. When I opened my first model/talent agency, I picked up the phone and called some of the top agencies in the country for advice. Eileen Ford at the Ford Agency in NY was so generous with her advice, and she said right up front, "Don't look for your money for at least 45 days." I quickly found out she was right! We often deal directly with a videographer or photographer who was hired by an ad agency working for a client. You can see where I'm going here--the client pays the ad agency who then pays the photographer, and then the photographer pays us. It takes time, checks have to clear, etc. Most likely it's also because my clients publish images and video of the talent they book from Protocol, and it would be far more costly to them to get caught up in a lawsuit regarding illegal use of a visual. That's a slam-dunk. Once in a while intuition saves the day. I sometimes get that funny feeling when I'm conversing with a new client, and often, if I ask the right questions, I avoid a disaster. I've learned to pay attention to my instincts!
In my biz, doing your job in a timely manner and doing it well = word of mouth rewards. My web site is where clients go to see what we have to offer. Getting lots of compliments, thanks to my web designer and the great talent I represent.

I love to work, and I'm more efficient at home when I'm working. I could be a "couch potato" if I didn't have someplace to go and something wonderful to work on each day! And there's nothing like the feeling I get when I help someone realize their dreams!

That's an easy one! When a client chooses one of my models or actors as first choice for a print, video or film booking, it simply means that the talent has worked hard for success, and I've done my job as a mentor. It doesn't get any better than that in my biz!
