My ex-husband's family had been in large-scale retail for many years, so I knew a thing or two about retail. That said, what I did with my store was different from what I learned from them. When someone walked into my shop, I greeted them with a hearty "hello" or "welcome". They obviously knew I was there but I let them look around and take everything in. The store set-up was small enough that I could back away, but still watch the person to see if they needed help.  Where did this idea originate for me? Several years ago I was in France. When we walked into small retail stores, the people welcomed us as if they were welcoming us into their home. No, there were no kisses on both cheeks, but the demeanor and tone of voice was we were being welcoming as was the "bon jour". Whenever I have left a store without buying something, I have always said "thank you" to the store personnel. On the France trip, this came in handy as I gave my bad-French version of "merci" (thank you). All five of use did that upon leaving, I hope showing that we were not "ugly Americans". A "let me know if you need anything" is stating the obvious; try greeting/welcoming the customer. We all have WAY too much competition. Make your store stand out with a hearty welcome.

Here is more detail: For one event, I boosted a couple of posts before a very large event and received +13K likes on one and +20K posts on another. One problem was that the event venue did not have good signage and people could not find the vendor village.  For another event, I boosted a post to a targeted before demographic before I went. While there were no sales on-line from the boosted post, some people at the event remarked that they had seen my logo on Facebook.
