No fee for an initial consultation to explore the project which either happens in-home or at our showroom. From there we charge for all design and estimating work and do not credit it back to the client. This is an in depth extremely detailed process in which we should be getting paid for. If you give it away for free or credit it back all that does is tell the client you will discount other items as well or your proposal and drawings are not detailed enough to charge for. We are in a service industry and need to be professional about everything we do!
I agree with alot of what was said in earlier posts. We run a small company and have used a 3rd party company with some success (Guild Quality) specific to contractors and then decided to bring this in house and we have done this with success. For us right at our closeout meeting when the client...

I agree with alot of what was said in earlier posts. We run a small company and have used a 3rd party company with some success (Guild Quality) specific to contractors and then decided to bring this in house and we have done this with success. For us right at our closeout meeting when the client is right in front of us we ask if they know anyone that they can refer to s and also ask if they would take 5 minutes to write a Google review on the spot so it does not get forgotten about as we all know we all say we will do things and then those simple things get pushed back and back until they are forgotten. We are even following up with clients we did projects for years ago asking for reviews and bottom line if they were happy with the service you provided they are always more than happy to help.

Your real competition is you and questioning what you are doing. It is good to know your competition but don't be focused on them or what they are doing or you will become them. Be confident in your process and the experience your team provides the client then you do not need to have any special offers that bring people in. People will naturally be drawn to you and your company for the experience and the knowledge you provide as an industry professional.
We used this service a while back with horrible results. We would call potential clients and if the number was a good number 50% of the time they were only expecting information not a phone call from a contractor. Definitely not worth the time or money you will invest with them.

We have no problem helping out a past or potential future client if they are simply looking for advice but it is a fine line as the time you should be investing in helping someone you have no relationship with. People are quick to take advantage of someone who is offering to work for free. When...

We have no problem helping out a past or potential future client if they are simply looking for advice but it is a fine line as the time you should be investing in helping someone you have no relationship with. People are quick to take advantage of someone who is offering to work for free. When someone asks my advice and I feel it may take some time to explain I will typically refer them to Youtube as there is most likely an actual video showing them step by step on how to do exactly what they are trying to do. I have had people call back when they are done and thank me for referring them there. This still allows me to look like the professional and also keeps me disconnected from the project if it turns out badly.
Even in a really competitive market, we try to focus on the value we give our clients and not what our competition is doing. We also have some really good relationships with other companies that do exactly what we do. We even partner with one to put together a great golf outing for a local...

Keep doing what you do best and the rest falls into place with some hard work.
I do not expect anything in return. My thought is this only makes me look like a leader in my industry which goes much further in a clients eye. If they can look to me for all of there needs or just a bit of advice even if it may not be something I do my team of professionals will benefit. If I...

I do not expect anything in return. My thought is this only makes me look like a leader in my industry which goes much further in a clients eye. If they can look to me for all of there needs or just a bit of advice even if it may not be something I do my team of professionals will benefit. If I can stand out as a company that is educated, professional and willing to help they will in my mind have no problem referring me to a neighbor or friend when they are looking for a service we provide. The small things go a long way!
