How We Got Started
I used to be in publishing/graphic design, then my husband and I had a TV production company. When it was time to reinvent myself again, we had the knowledge and equipment - so photography was a natural fit. I fell in love with Wedding Photography after my first shoot! : D But we do SO MUCH MORE than just Wedding Photography!

Dear Publisher on Pause, I don't know how much more that I can add to the GREAT advice everyone has offered. My deepest sympathies for the loss of your husband. I agree with outsourcing the graphic design segment. You may even be able to find some great graphic designers here. May I recommend Lisa Kempf Design right here on Alignable. My husband and I have also had to reinvent ourselves over the years (a couple of times!). It's a huge challenge but definitely not insurmountable. Renting rooms is a terrific idea and thank you Sofi for suggesting a good lawyer and looking out for you! It's this kind of thinking out of the box, that will help you. My husband and I worked together with our own Production company (doing test TV commercials) then had to segue into a Radio Controlled Airplane business (my husband's passion) and in addition I broke off to form a photography business (my passion). The point being, your new career could be anything and more than likely something unexpected that you kind of naturally "fall" into. I also agree with the great advice of maybe finding someone (another widow perhaps) to partner with. As we all know it's easier to handle everything with extra heads and hands. I hope this helps you with your next step. You are obviously a very capable and exceptional person. Keep up the great work! All my best, Denise

But I am looking for some great assistants! My problem is, my best chance is with the local college students and then they are not around in mid summer when I have most of my shoots!

I love the idea and love to support small businesses! Sadly it really does not do much for my "mostly online" and very selective business. Love anything that supports small businesses! They are important! : D

I totally miss Ames in the New Paltz Plaza. I think the college kids do too. It was just so great to have a store nearby where one could get furniture, craft supplies, clothes, cleaning supplied, and numerous other necessities without going across the river or to Kingston.
