About Us

Dr. Fellner completed his Podiatry training in 1990 at the University of Northampton, England graduating summa cum laude. The same year Dr. Fellner won the national, annual Podiatry Association award for ‘outstanding academic achievement’.

Following graduation, he chose employment with the National Health Service and steadily refined his clinical skills & acumen in general podiatry. He elected to become a surgical registrar and completed the Fellowship in Podiatric Surgery in 1994, following the additional post- graduate course of study & exams in surgical theory & practice. For the next 6 years, Dr. Fellner honed his surgical acumen, employed as Specialist in Podiatric Surgery.

In 2000 he was awarded the ‘Certificate of Completion’ which secured his employment as ‘Consultant Podiatric Surgeon’, the highest clinical grade awarded in the National Health Service. For the next eight years, he served as the County Head of Podiatric Surgery charged to provide a new elective, ambulatory foot surgery service, for a county population of 660,000 residents. Soon after implementation of this specialist service, and following a formal evaluation and patient satisfaction audit, his service was formally recognized by the Health Service Trust and was uniquely tasked to take over the Orthopedic waiting list, as the preferred referral source for foot surgery.

In 2009 Dr. Fellner emigrated to the US. Keen to continue his lifelong interest in the art & science of podiatric medicine & surgery, he returned to medical school to satisfy New York state licensing requirements. In 2013 he completed four years additional training at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. This was followed by three years of surgical residency at the Montefiore Medical Center. He successfully completed the residency in 2016. Following graduation, Dr. Fellner gained Board Certification. (ABPMA)

In addition to his broad surgical and medical expertise, Dr. Fellner’s special interests include Dr. Wu’s Syndesmosis Procedure for bunions (A Non-Bone Breaking Alternative), SERI minimally invasive surgery for bunions, CARTIVA joint resurfacing (for arthritic joints), Clearanail Micropenetration (for fungal nail infections), Tenex for stubborn heel pain and Hyprocure.

Dr. Fellner is approved by the credentials services and is on staff at Montefiore Medical Center, Department of Orthopedics & Podiatry, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Fellner is proud to be working with Starrett Podiatry. With his extensive surgical expertise & experience acquired over a quarter of a century, he is a welcome addition.

Most shoe stores are concerned primarily with making a sale, and less concerned with functionality and individual requirements. (more) A Podiatrists is a doctor specializing, from the get go if you like, in the medical and surgical management of the foot & ankle. The qualifying requirement, for state licensing, is 4 years of podiatric medical school. This is followed by a 3 year hospital residency. The qualification is recognized by the initials of DPM (Doctor of Podiatric Medicine). The Orthopedic Surgeon is a MD who is also required to complete 4 years of medical school, followed by 4 years of residency training. Why the extra 1 year? Unlike the Podiatrist / Podiatric Surgeon, the Orthopedic Surgeon is licensed to operate on any part of the body. Many Orthopedic Surgeons will likely go on to subspecialize e.g. hip replacement, others may focus on knee surgery, others on hands and some may then subspecialize in foot & ankle surgery.  Both professions have the option to extend and add to their training and expertise e.g. Fellowships etc.
