Absolutely, there are times that my competitor will do a particular task better than I can.   I therefore owe it to the potential client to pass him along to a "friendly" competitor. Unfortunately the education level is so poor that very seldom does a person come to you with a decent background in your field unless they have worked in it for many years at a good place of employment. In most cases you have to train the people yourself. I have been in the field over 50 years. I have had some great people working for me over the years. I am an engineer that designed and manufactured very high end photographic equipment and now in the digital age, most my products have become obsolete. Now I have a high end photographic studio where I often get to test and report on new photographic equipment by other manufacturers. I became a solar energy "expert" to continue to make a living. Best employee over the years walked in the door at 19 years old and just informed me he is looking for any job. He was a product of the NY school system. He left school after 10th grade and pretty much walked the street. It turned out he could not read and wright at a level to study anything. I started him at the menial task of feeding printing machines for testing them before they were delivered. A task that took 5 minutes to master. I insisted that he come to my home on Saturdays and I raised his reading and writing skills. It turned out he enjoyed drawing. I taught him technical drawing and he became excellent at it. I then taught him how to use a milling machine and a lathe. I then taught him to weld. He mastered these skills to an extremely high level. By the age of 24 he was my plant manager and skilfully ran a plant of 28 people. My engineering staff looked up to him as an expert and discussed their designs with him before handing them to our highly trained (mostly in house) craftsmen. He trained many new employees and now almost 40 years later, we are still great friends.
