CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Emphasis on fun and creativity!

Private Lessons - Learn from working professionals, develop technique and follow your interests. Light the flame of life-long learning: voice, guitar, piano, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, bass, drums, monologues, audition preparation, writing, songwriting, and more.

Making A Musical (Rising Stars, Garden Players) - Participate in the creation of a new musical using monologues, scenes, songs, and characters inspired by you. The semester will be full of warm-ups, movement, acting improv games, singing, monologues, scenes, and all of the fun that goes into developing well rounded creators and performers. Culminating in a video production of our musical with each performer performing a scene or monologue and being a part of at least one song.

Singing & Songwriting - Come together for singing & songwriting… vocal technique, solfeggio, ear training, rhythm training, learn from musical theater and popular songs, compose your own to share with us and collaborate on a group-written song. Let your songwriting creativity flow, guided by professional composer, songwriter, band leader, performer and educator Betina Hershey. Culminating in a recording of our collaboration.

Acting Improv - Get ready to move your body, express yourself, get silly and learn creative bravery through Yes And, Yes But, Gibberish, Rants, Ad Game, miming, teamwork, thinking on your feet, small groups, and so much more. Increase your confidence and connect to others with zanny ideas and courageous, supportive fun!

Band Class: University of Rock, Raga to Bach (grades 3-9) - Dive into the joy of being part of a band... everything from the music of the Beatles to Bach, Queen, Indian Raga, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, plus world rhythms and composing your own original music. Learn ensemble playing, follow your musical interests, develop musicianship through technique, ear training, improvisation, rhythm, time feel, groove, collaboration and more. Explore with your bandmates, led by professional multi-instrumentalist Nick Russo (performs with artists such as Paul McCartney, John Lithgow, Rob Morrow; member of Jon Batiste's band, The Hot Sardines, Russell Hall: Bessie & The Rainbow Kids, The Grand Street Stompers, and leader of NickRusso+11, Hot Jazz Jumpers & The Scooches).
