Pastor Paul and his wife, Colleen, were serving in ministry at Resurrection Life Church, in Grandville, when the Lord directed them to the little town of Newaygo to lead a small church plant of 40 people. In 1997, Resurrection Life Church of Newaygo started. The church grew tremendously over the years, with an average of 1,400 people attending each weekend. The pulse of the church was geared toward performance and excitement, and people were getting saved and God was moving.

In 2009, Pastor Paul felt a sense that there had to be something more to ministry than just the consumer mindset. After an encounter with the Lord, he strongly felt God telling him, "You built your church, now let's build mine." Pastor Paul decided to slow down the pace of the church and really seek the church model that God wanted. Piece by piece, the church was rebuilt and restructured. In 2013 the current Resonate Church Newaygo was launched.

The performance driven mindset was replaced with an aspiration to Amplify His Voice, a desire for authentic discipleship that with Exemplify His Life, and a dream of reaching the world from Newaygo by Expanding His Kingdom. Resonate Church is about striving to be receptive to God's voice so that we may "resonate" His will in this world.
