Emily Barker
Connection Psychiatry
I am an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, and am board certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I have over 24 years of experience in health care, including emergency services, emergency nursing, mental health nursing, humanitarian aid/disaster response, military nursing, and public health. I have worked in a multitude of environments, from the streets, to the hospital, to a war zone, and in rural, inner-city, and austere settings. I received a direct commission to the U.S. Army Reserve in 2019, where I provide for the mental health needs of service members.
My areas of expertise include Trauma- and Stressor-related Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, and Eating Disorders, and I treat both children and adults. Additionally, I am interested in working with individuals in or from service-oriented careers, including the military, firefighting, emergency medical services, policing, healthcare, mental health, humanitarian aid/disaster response, and religious leaders. I am a unique provider in that I offer both prescribing and psychotherapy services, depending on the client’s needs. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Levels 1 and 2, and in Trauma Resiliency Model Levels 1 and 2. I am in the final stages of earning my Certificate in Integrative Trauma Psychotherapy from Fairfield University.
I know the importance of establishing a strong connection with a provider, and prioritize listening, brainstorming, and strategizing with my clients, in order to develop the best plan for holistically improving their mental health. My clients appreciate my patience, compassion, and relatability. Besides working with individuals, I also enjoy working on a systems level, incorporating mental health practices, trainings, and improvement strategies into families, workplaces, and communities.
There is always hope for healing!
