This exhibit contains artifacts tracing the personal history of three women as artists living in a world that saw them mostly through a lens polarized by a community’s understanding of mental illness: Genevieve Mae Burnett (1945-2015), Mary Dunn (1956-2008), Deborah Sklar (1964-2014). The three lived in a shadow shaped by provincial beliefs even in the fairly progressive region of Western Massachusetts. The exhibit is virtual and physical. Virtually posted on Agusta Savage gallery website, link found on the AHOA site. The physical portion is at the Anchor House OCEC gallery.
