How We Got Started

After working for an indie film casting director and learning about indie film, we attended the Sundance Film Festival 5 years in a row and became inspired by the filmmakers and their journeys. Shake The Tree was born out of a desire to create original content with amazing stories and characters and give a voice to unexpected and undiscovered talent.

This is an interesting subject as this has been the new world for SO many people continuing to conduct business in so many industries. I have spoken with my team, as we have been attending a lot of on line events as of late and we also have hosted several on line events, we have discovered, concluded and offer the following, hopefully helpful, information: Be specific what resources you tap into for any on line networking. Know your audience and have your content ready, fact checked, engaging, professional with a little bit of fun mixed in if you are creating one and know your requirements and goals regarding the knowledge and expertise you need before you attend one. Be aware of the time spent. Events should be about 60-90 minutes to be useful. Do your due diligence and be certain an event will provide particulars pertaining to YOUR needs. A lot of the current webinar events that CLAIM to offer insights and information within your industry. Research the host and company to ascertain whether the content being shared is fact based, useful, practical and accessible. A lot of on line webinars and networking events have begun using information and formats that are repetitive, copied and have regurgitated statistics and data to serve their own agendas and build their "paid" client bases through "free" events. It's not inappropriate to ask for references from previous attendees.  An on line experience can be fruitful and positive if you understand how it can serve you. Collaboration and networking are always wonderful resources, especially during uncertain times like these, and currently pose an enormous opportunity to have access to things you may not otherwise have. But if you follow these simple rules...if you are allowed...you should have a lot of beneficial takeaways.  1. Takes lots of notes.  2. Ask lots of questions. Ones that are important, pertinent and not too self focused. Helping the group helps you and builds a respect and trust that is required in all relationship building.  3. Ask for a transcript or reference materials that were discussed post-meeting.  4. Get an email for follow up questions and ask if there are any groups on social media that might serve for follow up information and connecting further.  5. Listen and be present. The littlest of details can escape you if your mind wanders. Stay focused.  6. And finally... Be respectful and gracious regarding your host's time and knowledge.  Hope this helps. Stay safe and healthy. Best in success, Toni D with Shake The Tree.
