About Us

I have been fighting cancer since 1998 with 4 separate cancer diagnoses over the years. I remembered how hard it is to find fun hats to cover chemo baldness (it gets cold being bald!). So, I designed many beanie hats in sizes infant to adult for men, women, and children of all ages at https://www.funwithchemo.com. Stop by and see!

How We Got Started

We started as an additional way to bring in a bit of extra cash but as my cancer diagnosis began, we turned to internet business as a way to replace income lost to cancer and treatments. I was no longer to work in my previous career as a marketing consultant to the luxury housing and boutique hotel industries. I love being able to work from home and enjoy the creativity involved with online business.

As I looked around for a way to replace income, I turned to the internet. I became a PowerSeller on eBay selling high-end home decor items - like a lifesize sculpture of  Neptune with his trident that I exported to Australia and a white armchair with gold wings where the arms would be for a baby's nursery. I sold vases, art, furniture, and furnishings. I now have a site called www.funwithchemo.com offering items that folks in treatment would find useful for infusion days and beanie hats for hair loss.

I am grateful for life - just to be living. I spent the past year and a half fighting my 4th cancer diagnosis. My first was in 1997 followed by two more in 2003 and another in 2017. I am grateful for the excellent insurance I have and most of all for the kind and effective folks who work at the cancer center where I received most of my treatments. Yes, it was hard and painful but I am left with a longer life than I started the treatments with. My Doctors are excellent and very smart, very up to date on treatments and they took the time to explain things to me so I was more comfortable with the process.     The process of creating the beanies felt very creative and was satisfying. Hard as it is to imagine.... but, I would go through it all again if faced with another tumor. I managed to keep working from home and got my website up and running (though it still requires some tweaking... I will get that accomplished). My site is based on my earlier treatments of chemotherapy. It was very hard to find fun, fashionable beanie hats so I made some through an online source. They turned out so well that I decided to offer them on an e-commerce shop at www.funwithchemo.com   . I also offer items that are needed for chemo treatment days.

I have a few images in mind that always make me feel good: I have a rope and board swing over a pretty creek in the woods that I sit and swing on in my mind. My feet are bare and I put my toes in the creek as I swing by. I am wearing a flowing longish skirt. I listen to the birds and the sound of the water bubbling for as long as fifteen minutes or so. I also have a tropical beach with one palm tree which provides nice shade and I lie there and listen to the waves rolling in and the sound of the shorebirds and feel the breeze on my skin. A few minutes in either of those places seems to center me and break any stress I may be feeling. I also talk to friends - lately, we have regular Zoom get-togethers and have a few laughs as we talk about books we are reading or favorite movies... sometimes even politics as we are on the same boat in that area. We also play games and word puzzles. Seven or eight of us get together each Saturday. We also take rides in our car and often go to the Berkeley Marina for a bit of birdwatching or a walk or to just sit in our car and watch folks sailboarding and walking past. In other words - I exit the stress situation mentally or physically to get a fresh perspective. It usually does not look like such a big issue after I have separated myself from it for a bit.

I have used graphics folks from Fivver with very good results. I look at their work and expect to find it on a variety of websites. I had a standard color image of a woman drawn and she is wearing one of my beanie hats for chemo patients. I have received good feedback as she is on my facebook... My health issues started in 1997 with breast cancer then 5 years later I developed uterine and fallopian cancers. Then in 2017 - more breast cancer but a different kind from my earlier bc. I spent a year and a half in treatment. So it goes without saying that I know about chemo. One of the things I know is it is hard to find attractive fun or stylish beanie hats and it gets cold with no hair. So I made some hats for myself online using a Candian company. They turned out so well that I thought others would enjoy them as well. I named my website "Fun With Chemo" figuring the name would be easy to remember and because fun is very rarely connected with chemo. None the less, a bit of fun in the form of a cool beanie would be a good way to pick up spirits that may be struggling. I have leopard beanies, graffiti beanies, camo beanies, fun feminine beanies and some for every age range from infant to adult. Sizes also come in infant to adult. The process of designing the beanies felt very creative for me. My store is open for business but I am still working on it to add products that will come in handy for folks in chemo. If my experience can benefit just a few folks out there, I feel deeply rewarded. You can find my site at http://www.funwithchemo.com
