Direct-to-Garment White Ink (DTGW) Garment Printing
This method takes DTG printing to a whole new level. Garments are treated with a water based chemical pretreat solution. That is then heat cured and set. The pretreat is vital for the addition of white ink.
Once pretreated the garment is loaded into the same printer for DTG printing. The printer however lays down a layer of white ink before printing colors on top of the white. These extra steps allow for bright colors to stand out on black and darker color garments. DTGW is recommended for darker colored garments such as
• Black
• Navy
• Dark Gray
• and more
It can also be used on lighter colored fabrics to keep the brightness of lighter colors or add/keep white in a design. The additional processes add thickness to the final print so the design will have a different texture or weight (called hand in the garment industry) than a normal DTG. The ink actually sits on top of the fabric and isn't fully infused into the fibers. It's still pliable and moves with the fabric but it does not stretch with the fabric. The inks are crack and fade resistant so it should wear pretty well.
Garments need to have a higher cotton percentage (80% or higher is best) in order to be printed on with white ink. We've gone as low as 50% but the colors are not as bright as they are on 100% cotton garments. There is no minimum order for DTGW but there is a $7 surcharge per garment
