"If you need medical services, the folks at Sistersville General Hospital are not JUST like family - they ARE family! S.G.H., though a small facility, has a lot more to offer than what many might imagine. They not only have the ability to test, diagnose, and treat those with illnesses and injuries; they also provide services to help you stay healthy! S.G.H., the small home town hospital with a very big heart!"

A solicited fake review from anyone tells a lot about a business/business owner. If a business is willing to lie (or have someone else lie for them), in anything, how could you ever trust them. That is not a business I would want to deal with.

I am not a building or construction contractor, except in the metaphorical sense. I am involved in health and safety training (as well as skills development training). When asked for an estimate for learning and development or safety and health training, it may take me a little bit of time to work up the estimate depending on the complexity, but I have never charged for the estimate. The contact time with a potential client in getting to know their needs and listening to their concerns is extremely worthwhile.

As a one person operation in Safety and Health Training and consulting, my opportunities for business had dropped to nearly zero since the second week of March. I have had a couple of jobs reviewing safety and health procedures, but other than that it has been pretty sparse. However, there is light at the end of this tunnel, and I am feeling upbeat about the growing possibilities. I applaud the reopening of the economy, particularly with the using of wisdom from lessons learned in doing so safely. Not every business fits the same mold, so each one needs to address how quickly and to what extent they can open safely based upon their own perceived risks.

This is a rather interesting survey, a little troubling, but interesting non-the-less. I am not concerned particularly about recessions or depressions in our economy. Our economy has always been somewhat cyclical. And though I admit that we need to plan and have contingencies for the future, and learn from the past, we also need to live in the here and now. When we talk about recessions, it is like bringing on the thought of doom and gloom, and that can get pretty unnerving if we allow it. I prefer to think more positively, and whatever the economy, continue to do the right thing and be the best that I can be. Though we may be in business to earn a living, it isn't about the money. If it is, I am afraid our focus isn't in the right place and we will find ourselves very disappointed in the long run. It reminds me of a sign I had seen on the back of a dump truck: "If money is your goal, you will never have enough". There are a lot of things and events that may impact Wall Street, and ultimately my business, but none of these things will I allow to move me away from my passion of helping others and keeping them safe. Yes; make plans/contingencies for the future, don't stop learning from the past, but live for today and make it the best you possibly can for yourself and others.

I believe the answer to this question would be contingent on what the business offers. For example: Seasonal promotions work great for retail and a limited number of service providers, but doesn't fit so well for service providers offering a service that requires workforce or personal participation. For training service providers in particular: With the holidays it becomes more difficult to gain workforce or personal participation with training opportunities when in competition with vacations, family gatherings and other festive events.

My 'competitors are friends; we are in the work of striving to keep our workers, friends, and neighbors safe. It is great when we can collaborate on tasks, and our customers reap the benefits! I have no problem helping them. Our goals are the same: Each one going home in the same of better shape than when they had gone to work - each and every day!

Good question, I don't know that I have a good answer. The fact some might take advantage of your kindness may be an indication that you have made a positive impact in someone's life. It also may lead to the best form of advertising (my opinion), word of mouth. Abuse? I would have to have that one defined for me, but I would suspect it is related to the taking advantage of one's kindness. I think there could be a workable solution, such as continuing to offer the benefits of the association between yourself (business), and the other if they could extend the hospitality of bringing in more clients that would use your services. Make it a measurable and achievable target (like for every customer you obtain through their efforts, a maintaining of your service/discount or even an increase at a set level).
By all means though, strive to remain friends. The fact that you are feeling abused is an indication that there is something that they like about you. I would be more concerned if they didn't seek what I could offer. If you need to raise your rates, explain it to them in such a way that you could still offer them a discount if they in turn could maybe advertise for you (or something mutual). The last thing that you would want to do is make an enemy. The kind of advertising that stems from a negative scenario like this would be faster and further reaching than what you really want.

For me, it is knowing information that will keep others safe, healthy, productive and happy is being presented to those at risk. Essentially, my personal goal is for everyone to be able to go back home in the same or better shape than when they went to work (or other), each and every day. Information in hazard recognition and mitigation is vital to achieving that goal, because what we do not know, can hurt us .... or worse. My satisfaction comes when I know those I have had a chance to work, share, and promote safety with go home to enjoy their loved ones every day. And, maybe by extension, they can share what they have learned with their families as applicable to help them stay safe at home too! Taking safety home is just as important as taking safety to work!
