My name is Dr. Dennis Spurgin. I am a Doctor of Chiropractic practicing in Palm Springs, California since 1992. My practice is on the campus of the Desert Health Care District which also houses the Desert Regional Medical Center. I am a second generation Doctor of Chiropractic; I started practice with my father in Terre Haute, Indiana and practiced with him for almost nine years. My son is also a Doctor of Chiropractic in Indio, California.

Also it is important to know when you need help and get the help early in the course of the problem.
My second calling has occurred in the last ten years when I learn that there was a cure for Severe Acute Malnutrition in third world countries that were proven sustainable, but needed start up funding.
I will try to give a simple answer to this complicated question: The Human body is not designed to work sedentary at a computer. Therefore all prevention and treatment is based on posture, mobility and exercises.

There are many causes including athletic activities and injuries, however the overwhelming cause in the general population is being over weight

Chiropractic is an Art and Science therefore it takes both. The Science begins with a good undergraduate education combined with dedicated work in the Chiropractic Educational Institution. Chiropractic is an Art and Science therefore it takes both. The Science begins with a good undergraduate education combined with dedicated work in the Chiropractic Educational Institution. When dealing with Human Beings you never know what you must know today, tomarrow or in my case what you need to know in the next 50 years. The Art is the use of the hands, dealing with different personalities and problem solving. Most people think that you get a Diagnosis and everybody is treated the same. I have treated thousands of people with the same Diagnosis and each one has needed to be treated differently.
Chiropractic is still the stepchild of medicine and abused by other practicianer, insurance companies and healthcare institutions therefore you must be ready to stand up and defend your profession. We are making progress, but it has been a long road. Chiropractic is less than 5% of the healthcare practitioners in the US.
California law is 24 hours of state approved continuing education (CE) per year. Each state is different on requirements.

They majority of the medical professionals and insurance companies don't see all the options that we know about such as: Manipulation including force and non force, Exercise, Physical Therapy including many different programs, Occupational Therapy, Acupuncture, Massage, Nutritional and even over the counter medications. I could write a book on all the options. Also conservative practitioners are not trusted to send patients to surgery when it is necessary (red flags dictate the necessity). When I call the Orthopedic and Neurological surgeons and sent them a case they know it definitely needs surgery.
