Perhaps my only question would be: If we participate in a second PPP, instead of following the instructions from the first round, and only requesting 2-1/2 months of relief (which helped immensely - for 2-1/2 months), would it be more prudent to request 6 months? 12 months? 18 months? 24 months?
There's no telling how long this will drag on.

Love or hate this answer, I'm sorry, but this bill needs to be vetoed. 2.2 Trillion, and only around 200 billion for Americans? Absolutely criminal. Let's have a stimulus bill without the additional 5,000 pages of pork and foreign aid please.

OK. Here goes. Pretty sure I'm going to catch some blowback from this, but it needs to be expressed nonetheless. Simply put, draconian, unconstitutional lockdowns do more harm than good. That's verifiable fact! Look at the science and the data on BOTH sides of this equation for the real answers,...

OK. Here goes. Pretty sure I'm going to catch some blowback from this, but it needs to be expressed nonetheless. Simply put, draconian, unconstitutional lockdowns do more harm than good. That's verifiable fact! Look at the science and the data on BOTH sides of this equation for the real answers, just as if you were calculating "true cost" in your business analysis. Look to South Dakota, where these lockdowns were never put into place as your "test model". Their "curve" mimics the same trend that we saw in all of the places where edicts and mandates absolutely crushed many small businesses to death, while effectively transferring wealth to the likes of WalMart, and Amazon. None of this should be acceptable in a "free" country. If this were the late 1700s, we would already be actively engaged in a freedom fight, despite a massive smallpox epidemic. LIFE IS RISK! As business owners, I'm certain you are all very aware of that.
So, to the point of the original question here: NO ONE IS PREPARED, NOR COULD THEY POSSIBLY BE PREPARED TO HAVE THE GOVERNMENT RUN THEM OUT OF BUSINESS, WHETHER SWIFTLY OR SLOWLY!
I thank my stars that I have been extremely fortunate to have been working all year. But I have lost some very great commercial clients that were not able to weather the storm on the first go around. We're all in this together, remember? Just as a rising tide lifts all boats, a tsunami destroys everything in its path. My plan to make it through this is to keep operating whether or not they tell me I'm "permitted" to operate. I have a responsibility to my family, and my employees. I will not let them down.
When the people who make these rules will not even follow these rules themselves, it's very clear that it is not about health. It's about control. If we are to remain free, we must resist these unconstitutional edicts and go to work. We can work responsibly, and take the proper precautions, and generally be healthy and well as a result. But it is at minimum a huge insult to not even allow us to make that call given the information we now have. We can also all do our parts to protect those most vulnerable now that we know who those folks are. But forcing folks to literally go broke? That's how you get people angry enough to revolt.

2020 has provided me with more than solid proof that my uncle was absolutely correct when he told me at a very young age that the only function of government should be to guarantee our rights are not infringed upon. Nothing more. He told me that if you place our government in charge of anything else the private sector could do, the government will undoubtedly fail 10/10 times, and usually it will be a colossal failure at best. With so many small businesses having been absolutely destroyed in California, with no hope of coming back, we can see that the government overreach and response to this pandemic have been devastating to so many people. In short, the cure was far worse than the disease ever could have been. So many livelihoods have vaporized. I don’t know that this is any type of “silver lining” per se, but I felt it needed to be expressed none the less.
It would be great if any lenders were actually offering any sort of term loans at this time. Their marketing materials suggest that they do, but after jumping through all the hoops, they offer nothing in the way of a term loan due to economic uncertainty. It would be great if any lenders were actually offering any sort of term loans at this time. Their marketing materials suggest that they do, but after jumping through all the hoops, they offer nothing in the way of a term loan due to economic uncertainty. A goal I currently have is to consolidate some debts via a small 3-5 year term loan in order to save a significant amount on monthly costs, and also fund some business expansion in the process in order to boost revenues. But lenders only seem interested in offering a line of credit instead, with ridiculous costly fees. If I had known in March, what I know today, I would applied for a much larger EIDL and PPP amount than the amounts originally requested in March, and eventually granted in May. On a side note: opening up our economy would have a far better impact on everyone’s business interests all the way around. It would also be extremely helpful for morale all around.

We never closed through any of this as we are an "essential" service in the pest management industry. Bugs, and critters do not follow #stayathome orders. Many of our clientele are commercial accounts, and we have been hit and miss with those accounts (many are closed, some will never re-open...

We never closed through any of this as we are an "essential" service in the pest management industry. Bugs, and critters do not follow #stayathome orders. Many of our clientele are commercial accounts, and we have been hit and miss with those accounts (many are closed, some will never re-open sadly). On the residential side of things, this is the time of year when we are normally starting at least 6-8 new accounts per week as it is getting hotter outside. Instead, we have experienced a 30% drop in residential accounts during all of this due to economic uncertainties and people have simply lost their jobs and incomes. We did apply for a very small amount through EIDL and PPP to help cover the deficiencies, and are still waiting and hoping that some help may come. I have had to halt my personal salary, cancel a great deal of marketing, and switch out to lower cost alternative materials in order to keep this business going on diminished revenues. Prior to this, we were in the best shape we've ever been in through our historically "slow" season.
I'm really very shocked at how quickly everyone in this country was willing to throw our constitution, and our economy out the window. I really thought we were in The United States of America. It is way past time to re-open before the damage is even greater. Let's of course do this wisely and safely, but let's do this before there is nothing for us to return to in terms of freedom.
I'd say in my line of work, both really matter. I go to people's homes and places of business. You really need to feel comfortable with the person showing up on a regular basis. Even if they are highly skilled.

Have a holiday special running to the end of the year. I marked my operation as closed for the whole 4 day weekend. If it is an emergency, I might roll on it if it’s Friday Saturday or Sunday for a higher cost, but I really need the time off to spend with family

A company is only as good as the technician they send out, and often times the customer gets short changed. This is mainly because of the high rate of turnover. A local, independent contractor can usually get a better job done, often at a lower cost, and with stronger guarantees.
