What have you found to be the best type of marketing to get new clients through the door and also to thread into the community in which you do business?

I agree with Sheryl - participate in local events.
For me as a Clinical Hypnotist - I brushed up my "stage" skills and gave talks to any club or group that would have me ( and they are always looking for Speakers) and talked about my Profession and did lots of demos!!. This made me the Local Expert.
Free events are also good attraction. Though as I became more established - I find that charging for a 'Promo" event brought as many people as making it Free. The Value of paying added to expectation.
Social Media is good background noise. But 'in person' stuff is what makes you in a local area.
