First, understand that you cannot totally keep the two separate no matter how hard you try. Then manage it from there. You are human. If the spouse is mad at home in the morning, they are probably mad at 9:00 AM when they show up for work. One thing that I try to do when we both completed a long day is to buy supper so that she does not have to cook. I have learned that I have to apologize more often for things that happen at work and at home. When things get too bad, she spends less time at work, and I try to come home from work earlier. Our relationship is better cemented because we now have plenty of experience in working out our differences both home and at work. Vacations and weekends help, and we do really like spending time together.
Being in business is a risk. I need an atmosphere that improves the chance that the outcome is good. I don't need PPP money, but I don't need the government to shut me down. I want to pay taxes, but I appreciate the tax cuts which have been partially used to to hire more help. Raising taxes...

Being in business is a risk. I need an atmosphere that improves the chance that the outcome is good. I don't need PPP money, but I don't need the government to shut me down. I want to pay taxes, but I appreciate the tax cuts which have been partially used to to hire more help. Raising taxes does not improve the chance of a good outcome. Raising water rates by local government 3 times this year does not improve the chance of a good outcome. I have been told that taxes will not increase for clients under $400,000. The last time people on minimum wage jobs and 2 jobs had to pay a fine if they did not have health insurance. How does this make me believe that people under $400,000 won't pay more in taxes? I need outcomes that will not make working at McDonalds have better outcomes then being in business. I need an atmosphere where the outcomes reflect that it is ok to get ahead if you spend 40 years working 60 hour weeks. I don't need a national health care program with $15,000.00 deductibles for a family of 2 making $65,000.00. I will not hire and train help at $15.00 per hour. I do now and will pay more than $15.00 per hour for trained help. I would advocate a training wage for high school and untrained workers. I don't support poverty situations. I 'd support incentives that permanently provides skills to keep people out of poverty. I want common sense government. I want government that encourages business people, because I have never worked at a permanent job for a poor person.
I certainly enjoy the relief of April 15th each year. Extending it to July 15th would not be my preference. Thank you to everyone who has worked with us through the most difficult tax season. I am thankful that I am still working.

My business evolved and happened before I thought abought starting a business. Maybe I should have known to be afraid. I am still learning after more than 40 years, and my fears were resolved one client at a time. I started knowing I would be paid last if I got paid at all. The extra hours...

My business evolved and happened before I thought abought starting a business. Maybe I should have known to be afraid. I am still learning after more than 40 years, and my fears were resolved one client at a time. I started knowing I would be paid last if I got paid at all. The extra hours and extra clients were the ones that I got my paycheck from. The regular clients paid the electric company the phone company the employees, etc.

Do not give up on a budget. It is your measuring stick. It is your grade card. Life does not allow us to always predict accurately through the budgeting process. If you see in July that sales are at 90% of budget, then you need to manage that expenses are also less than budget. You now have a tool with budgeting that allows you to manage the differences. If you know that your business is seasonal (perhaps December for Christmas Sales), then you know that you have to save some of the December money for a slow first quarter.
I don't know. I'm the accountant. Seems like I learn more from my clients than they learn from me. It is called listening.

The key is defining unnecessary expenses. When you define them, then get rid of them. All joking aside, look at what contributes to your business. I have grown my insurance business by trying to reinvest 10% in advertising. It is a necessary expense. As income increases, I increase...

The key is defining unnecessary expenses. When you define them, then get rid of them. All joking aside, look at what contributes to your business. I have grown my insurance business by trying to reinvest 10% in advertising. It is a necessary expense. As income increases, I increase advertising accordingly. It seems expensive to pay my phone bill each month until I realize it is my lifeline for making appointments. You could deliver with a motorcycle, but what if it rains? Get someone you trust to come in and analyze your expenses. In your haste to cut expenses, do not cut necessary expenses.

My experience has been that women can do what their husband's did easier than the other way around. Yes you can learn. Yes you know more than you think after being married all those years. For the rest of us, the lesson is to cross train in the jobs that our spouse's do. John Manz
