when you are self employed, if you have employees you have to pay into the fund for unemployment and it depends on your type of business you have, sole proprietor, sub chapter S, etc. on whether you are making contributions. there are also questions concerning reasoning for paying self employment, if you were to lay off an employee due to work slow down they may be eligible depending on time worked with you and or their previous employer, however you, being the business owner it would be hard to justify to the Dept. of Labor on allowing the payments.

I started my own business after being in the same business for 18 yrs. Yes, there is a failure risk and that was an area that I never thought of, If I was looking to enter a profession that was totally new to me then I might have been more investigative .Most entrepreneurs are risk takers from the beginning, if you are wanting to branch out on your own and are hesitant, the first question would be why are you hesitant, the second one why this particular endeavor ? Every day we take a risk, bad driver, storm, being in a bad location, but luckily the majority get home every day. If you open up something new, then you did more than 80% of the population would have done, The worst thing is that it does fail then if you research why did it fail, location, lack of funding, not right business for the area then hopefully you learned enough not to make the same mistake twice however don't let it get you down- There are thousands of people that failed the first few times however by learning from each experience they have mastered the plan and are now happy and SUCCESSFUL>
i really don't think there is a difference on whether it is now or later, reason why is when it is really booming a lot of the buyers/sellers already have someone in mind, if a slump or slow season that gives a person time to create and cultivate some strong prospects and gain some experience.
