Lots of good suggestions. I'd like to add that not having a storefront benefits your clients because you don't have huge overhead and you are able to pass along the savings. This could be part of your messaging. People are sometimes skeptical about a business not having a physical office but many...

This could be part of your messaging. People are sometimes skeptical about a business not having a physical office but many companies (at least in certain industries) are starting to see its benefits and hopefully more clients will become believers :)

Hi you certainly got a lot of good leads but I will join in :) One of my specialties is Fitness Marketing. Gold's Gym and Tapout Fitness are some of my clients. Recently redesigned tapoutfitness.com. And you can visit my agency site at influencivebranding.com. We are a lean, mean team, not the traditional agency. And we do brand identities, videos, advertising and websites. Would love to work with you. Best of luck either way.

Ah the million dollar question. Here is something that happened recently. A prospect contacted my agency about a logo design. Upon hearing the estimate, he said "I can get a designer off craigslist to do it for $500." But that's not the punch line. He added that he has spent thousands already on several designers and still isn't happy. That's the problem right there which this prospect didn't even realize. He has 2 choices now: to continue throwing a few hundred dollars around to multiple fly-by-night designers (who this prospect seems to view as competition to agencies) and hope something sticks, or he can cut his losses and go to a reputable agency or freelancer who won't take his money and say "oops sorry you aren't happy." Ultimately you get what you pay for and investing his money in the right freelancer or agency who care about their reputation will likely cost him less in the long-run. So when a prospect brings up unrealistically low bids, I make sure they understand the whole value of what my team can bring to the table, the difference in quality and what to look out for when looking for a designer in general. Then this person can make an informed decision whether he/she hires my agency or not. At least my conscience is clear and I have stayed true to my profession and brand.
People love customized things with their names on them. Recently I did a very targeted direct mail campaign for one of my banking clients and we sent out elegant pens with each target's name on them. The return on this investment was amazing.

Hi Chelsea, I run a small design agency in NJ where we specialize in branding for small to mid-sized businesses. I have been a creative director for years before starting my own agency. All designers can design a logo but you need to find one that understands not just your aesthetic but your audience as well. A logo is an important start but a good designer sees beyond that and helps you bring your entire visual identity to life and in a way that it doesn't lose its relevance within just a year or two. A logo is a commitment and will build equity over time so you wamt something timeless. Of course there are resources out there like 99designs and such but I would recommend a reputable designer or studio for this important investment. Please view our work at influencivebranding.com and feel free to reach out with any questions. Best of luck to you.
