In NH, if you're more than 5 miles from fire service it is very hard to find affordable coverage. Distance to hydrants or other water sources is more relevant for pricing. Though, in NH, most towns are too rural to maintain their own hydrants; many municipalities are forcing builders to install underground water sources with cistern access for new construction (via building codes). Many carriers will accept this in lieu of traditional hydrants and will offer a lower rate, assuming the water access point is within 1,000 feet of your property.
