Then there are those we call "the new semi-professionals". They give the industry a bad name and denigrate our image. In our age of the cell phone and the selfie, those that call themselves "professionals" who have little or no formal training are a threat to our entire industry.
I see examples of awful quality photography on a daily basis. I also see examples of awesome work too.
The question is too broad. I do not mean to sound snippy but If the immediate answer is not known to the questioner, he/she should not have gone into business in the first place. Simple answer - How to stand out? - Be better than the rest. Restate your question with - what industry - where are...

The question is too broad. I do not mean to sound snippy but If the immediate answer is not known to the questioner, he/she should not have gone into business in the first place. Simple answer - How to stand out? - Be better than the rest. Restate your question with - what industry - where are you located - what is your main niche - how well capitalized - what is your level of expertise in your industry? If you have little or no experience in building a business perhaps a mentor or advisor is a good step. Businesses fail or operate marginally because the owner does not know how to drive their business and that is different for each industry.

Building a clientele is the fourth question to answer along with what is your market area. Without knowing the first 3, the answer is impossible.
It is obvious you do not know a lot about your craft. The question as you asked it cannot be answered because there is too much missing.
All the other answers are nice but not informative enough for you to succeed in a photographic enterprise.
Send me the correct information and I will gladly provide a useful answer.

Your question is a form of the most often asked question in photography. I do not know where you are located, so I would not know your specific market. What works for some does not necessarily work for all. We can assume for the moment you are good at your craft. Your typical boudoir customer is usually very mainstream and older. That is the experience we have found in this market. For some, Facebook ads work, for others Instagram, still others direct mail or an email blast. In some markets, personal networking is effective. It depends upon your market. Its size. Its sophistication. Its age distribution. If you send me more detail, I am happy provide a more precise answer.

I happen to know a wonderful man, recently retired (June) who is probably the best restoration expert in south Florida. It is what he taught at college level. I have not shared exhausted's plight with him.
If she makes contact with him, it is possible he would be willing to take on her temporary project. It would involve some begging and pleading. If she wishes to pursue that avenue, please have her make contact with me at laurenceatstudio18@gmail.com and I will, by email connect the two them.

A lot depends upon the potential return but basically, if it is a one off I would stick to my price. If it is a corporate client I can be accommodating.

If there is a basis for a personal relationship perhaps that might work. Otherwise, it could get cumbersome.

I do not understand. Does your question mean you wish to promote a small business for pets or a small business for photography?
If pets, which is your area of expertise, the principles of business will always apply. If photography, you have admitted to limited experience and no technical skill yet. Stick with pets.
There are currently tens of thousands of wannabe photographers with stories like yours and with limited talent bringing the bar for professionals very low. An expensive camera is not a license, it is an opportunity.
A very famous photographer Cartier-Bresson said, " your first 10,000 photos are your worst". When you get close let me know and I will be happy to review your portfolio. But also remember, photography is a business. A course in photography does not provide access to that world.
