How We Got Started

Me: (2015 - 3 months after being hired by the office manager for an electrical contractor to clean up his books) Hey, Office Mgr. I am noticing some interesting discrepancies between the recorded sales receipts and the bank deposits.
Ofc. Mgr: Oh, how about you work on updating this spreadsheet for the service techs today.
Me: Okay, but I really want to discuss this.
Ofc. Mgr: How about next week. I really need this spreadsheet done.
Monday morning rolls around and I am let go as "not a fit". Three months later found out the Ofc. Mgr was embezzling from the company which would have become obvious in the clean-up of the cash accounts.
That is when I decided to open my own bookkeeping service business. I don't actually do audits but integrity is a quality that I require in myself and my clients.

I started my bookkeeping service in 2015 so by the time COVID landed I was already in business and didn't really see any effect.  Because of the consulting services I also offer, my clients either grew or maintained during this ongoing event. Unfortunately, businesses have a habit of making rash decisions (and bad decisions) because everything is moving so quickly. They don’t identify how bad those decisions were until things start going downhill. As a result, there’s a lot of clean up to do during downturns. Start by weeding the garden or removing those unnecessary costs (i.e. overhead expenses). Overhead costs can easily get out of hand with revenue. Unfortunately, they tend to not decline as quickly when the sales drop off.
