Think of Happy Numbers as a personal teaching assistant that uses AI to help PreK-5 teachers deepen a student’s conceptual understanding of math. It’s not a replacement, but a compliment to a teacher's methods, and helps teachers differentiate instruction. With lessons that blend math with activities and games; the activities are focused on small groups and individuals as to offer a better experience for the students. It’s not a set of electronic worksheets or another “all dancing, all singing” resource. Instead, we teach students to “think math”: exploring the meaning behind the math, creating connections, and developing deep conceptual understanding. Happy Numbers uses scaffolding instruction to continue to build up a student’s understanding of math naturally, without making a student aware that they are falling behind others.
At its foundation, Happy Numbers is driven by pedagogy and research, while supported by AI-enabled technology (not vice versa). It uses the best pedagogical practices for approaching early math skills and concepts in Grades PreK-5. Our assessment component is aligned to the Quantile Framework- an independent 3rd party measurement of grade level readiness in mathematics. It includes a Readiness Test (Placement), Mid-Year, and End of the Year Assessments, so 3 data point on which to draw upon. While students are learning with Happy Numbers, Happy Numbers is learning about them and provides feedback based on each student’s performance level and progress -- it’s like having a teacher assistant for each student in the class! While you teach small groups, Happy Numbers serves as an independent math center, providing individualized instruction for the rest of the class.
