About Us
Paralyzed Veterans of America is a small but powerful veterans' service organization (VSO) that works for the health of veterans with spinal cord dysfunction and provides activities for them.
How We Got Started
Like other chapters of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, the Keystone chapter began with paralyzed vets who needed to band together to fill the gaps in the medical services provided by the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs (the "VA"). Keystone PVA's members actually do most of the work of the chapter, visiting fellow vets and looking for ways to improve their health, their recreational opportunities, and their overall ways of life.

In my organization, I have the luxury of playing the long game. I don't actually fundraise; I take advantage of every opportunity to tell people what we do. I have confidence that our mission is so obviously worthy of support that as more people learn about it, they will support it. It is a program of constant "branding."
However, I try to make our website constantly available and appealing, because in this day and age, if I want to check someone out, I look at their web pages! Some very well-meaning organizations have web sites that are a bit sketchy. I don't distrust their mission or their motives, but I do wonder if they have the appropriate administrative safeguards against fraud, mismanagement, and general disorder. (That said, I know darn well our own pages could be better--and I'm working on that!)
