In 1980 I was studying architecture in Chicago and pursued a part-time job to make ends meet. I secured a job at Masterpiece Studios in Chicago, they produced beautiful greeting cards. They started me on the bottom and within a year they moved me up to different departments and then to a pre-press supervisor working with ginormous cameras and cutting out each color on films on a light table and doing everything by hand, which was an art by itself. I learned so much in one year about paper stocks, the printing process, the science and algorithms’ of printing that I fell in love with paper and ink. For the past 38 years I have enjoyed working in all different types of printing processes and working as an account manager for motorcycle and truck fleet graphics from start to finish for Harley Davidson and Miller Brewing Company and lastly as a Print Broker for a large firm outside of Chicago which rounded out my printing experience and ability to find the best pricing for my clients.
