I really find it rewarding to see the excitement on my clients face when a project is completed and I know that I have met or exceeded their expectations! This happens mostly on custom installation where they have an idea on what they want and I make that idea become reality.

Demonstrate the value of your business over others. Tell them exactly what you offer that the others don't, always have at least 3 referrals to offer them to verify your qualified and competent in your profession.

Great Poll! This reflects on how little of an effect the government has on the private sector! I feel for those that suffer from this, however there needs to be checks and balances and this country has and will survive from government shut-downs!

First consider if it's a good fit for your business, how can it reflect on you in a positive or negative way. Investments always have risk, do your homework and research their proposition. Then weigh out the investment vs reward.

From my experiences, every time I help a new client with a problem caused by someone else's poor quality work or lack of knowledge for solving problems. My M/O is simple "do whatever it takes to make a client happy, and they will be your client for life"!

After reading many of the great answers to this question, I really think it depends on the type of business. What works for some will not work for others. Service & Construction Businesses have Trucks and Van's that can have Custom Wrap Decals made, literally turning the vehicle into a billboard. While it may work for them it may not work for an Insurance or Financial Planning Business. The same holds true for direct-mail flyers, postcards, magazine advertisements. Radio & Television are other options but tend to be out of budget range for most small businesses. Research what other like successful businesses do, there is a reason for what and why they are doing it!
I had a client for many years that moved out of state and asked me "If I pay you for your time and expenses would you consider coming to our new home to take care of our installation needs, we trust you and enjoy having you work for us?"
