How We Got Started

We noticed our old neighborhood trees being topped, hacked, and removed unecessarily by unlicensed crews. There is a need for a skilled, professional arborist in every area in the Northwest. We are happy to fill that role, and to provide high end tree services that enhance our neighbors trees or property.

Both web page making services have pros and cons..one has cheaper add on email accounts so your email matches your website..but both have easy to use tools that are worth it if you are doing it yourself. Drag and drop style, with updated templates etc.  We have had good success using an online contact form that they also both provide. Our business cards and marketing directs clients to our website in order to contact us. We can choose for the form to require name, phone numbers, address, and email address in order to actually send the form; cutting way down on spam.

We like to know that the client is committed enough to get on our schedule. You have to make it easy to pay you. The client can use an E-Check or any major credit card to pay us through an online service on our website, or on our invoice. A financing button is also available to turn on.   A free online service we found effective for keeping estimates and invoices straight and paid quickly is "Joist" for contractors, it really helps. The estimate and invoice forms are professional, and you can email or text it to the client. Im told 97% of all text are opened within a minute of receipt..and it has two e-payment options right on the face of the email/invoice.  The cost to turn on the payment button is a fee similar to what PayPal charges for business to use their Visa/MC button service, around 2.7%-..but it is worth it to me because of the convenience. The fee gets paid to Joist and they deposit the rest in to your bank pretty quick. You can turn the payment options off, and just say in the email that you want the down payment upfront, the rest upon completion.     We always ask for payment upon completion in the bid when we book the job, after the downpayment is paid, and usually remind them again with the invoice promptly presented via email when we are all done.  Good luck out there! Cash flow issues are probably the number one reason a small business will fail so be careful waiting "forever". Thank you for reaching out!  John Page, ISA Certified Arborist & Owner of NW Tree Work in Portland, Oregon.

Try a Thumbtack listing and get leads there...there are many homeowners asking for service like this on that site..and it’s more affordable than other sites for now. From our experience they are one of the most expensive services, where you pre-pay for "verified" leads they send over sporadically. They give you good contact info that they verify as accurate or you get refunded, but you need to ask. It's sent over via text/phone/fax, and email. In that way they are "good leads". But, they give the leads out to many people more than they say they do..customers verify this to us all of the time. The dashboard will show you that it's only you and maybe 2 others bidding. Also, they have changed my service area without asking, and have added zip codes to my profile that I did not agree to service, so be ware! Those things can blow up your monthly ad budget and it seems unfair to do those things unauthorized. If you "catch" them doing it within a specific time period they will usually refund you if you call about it, or live chat etc. but sometimes not. It feels like there are alot of billing games at times. Another big one to remember is if you pause your leads..even just for the weekend, and resume them- you reset your ad budget back to zero.
