(more) The key to capturing more "new" business in the plumbing service industry is smart marketing.  The days of marketing in the phone book with ads are gone, word of mouth referrals are good but not consistent, your company can easily get lost in the mix of competitors on the radio, TV is strong but expensive and tracking your return on investment is a struggle to maintain.  Put your marketing focus online by building a user friendly website that visitors can clearly understand your services, history, book appointments, etc. You want to sell your customers on your company brand as much as your services.  Who are you as a company?  What is your ideal customer base?  What do you have to offer that separates you from your competitors?  These questions will define your strategies.  When you have your plan in place partner up with an internet marketing company you are comfortable with and campaign your online marketing strategies by using SEM (Search Engine Marketing) and PPC (Pay Per Click).  You can also partner up with your supply chains to get your company added as a preferred contractor on the manufacturers sites for the equipment you purchase and install.  Take advantage of social media to spread the word about your company; write blogs, post pictures, run contests for your customers to engage in, ask your customers to like you on social media sites you are on.  There are many avenues to take for marketing your company.  We have found that in the age of tech savvy customers and competitors you have to be in the game to be relevant.  That being said, it's extremely important to always maintain the basics with:  company stickers for water heaters, letter company vehicles, business cards, yard signs, asking for customers' email addresses for announcements / coupons / specials, "sell your brand".  Most importantly ALWAYS provide excellent customer service so your customer doesn't use you as a one time gap fill company.  A customer or general contractor will always conduct business with a company that has excellent customer service and makes conducting business easy for them.  Keep in mind that regardless of the marketing campaign you use to capture new business or returning business, it's the experiences with your company that will dictate repeat business and future referrals.
