I know you asked about me, but I remember an episode of Let's make a deal where Monty Hall asked for the lady that had parked next to him. He went on to describe the car etc. The woman rose & he gave her $100 for being so careful not to bump his car with her door. She had no idea it was his car...

I think of that whenever I'm in a tight parking space.
Even though most tax professionals are only available during January to April, I am available year round. Tax issues can and do arise throughtout the year and my clients know they can always reach me.

Teresa, I agree with the frequent, little perks. Having been on both sides, it's nice to receive a "thank you" no matter how small and small perks are more affordable as the giver. Consider a retired or semi-retired person that knows bookkeeping and is willing to mentor younger employees. They do...

Consider a retired or semi-retired person that knows bookkeeping and is willing to mentor younger employees. They do not teach bookkeeping anymore, only accounting. Many CPA's have no idea how to do bookkeeping, as it is a different animal, like comparing a wolf to a dog, same but very different. Eliminate the work agreement, people don't work well under threats. Ask the people you do have why they stay, you may find a hint as to how to keep people.
I keep in touch with my clients through out the year. I let them know that I have their best interest at heart. It is important to keep in touch so that if there are any changes during that can affect their taxes the following we can plan for the change.

We started a Facebook page this year. We do weekly posts and get some attention. So far we have not spent a dime. It is our off season, so I can't say what real impact it has had on business. I can say that it gets our name out there for free & that's good.

I would suggest that you change your mindset with regard to you target. You are looking for someone that wants a second job, to help pay bills or cover vacation expenses, or pay of holiday bill, whatever. This is your evening crew. The recent retiree who hasn't quite figured out what to do all...

The recent retiree who hasn't quite figured out what to do all day, every day, is also a good candidate. They want the off season to play & travel. There's the daytime crew.
