About Us

I create abstract, religious and spiritual oil pastel paintings. These are in a scratch board technique which scrapes into a base coat of fluorescent and iridescent color.
My new emphasis is creating colored pencil drawings and acrylic paintings based on musical performances. This reflects a life-long interest in listening to music. Much of this series is based on Berks Arts Council's Blues Fest and Jazz Fest.

How We Got Started

I have been making and showing art for over forty years. In 2018 I retired from a career in museum work and historic preservation. Soon after that I was juried in as a studio artist at Goggleworks Center for the Arts in Reading, Pennsylvania. I create my artwork there in studio 214. In 1987, I earned an M.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. I also learned a B.F.A in Art from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1984.

Read more "It is impressive to see how much Friends of Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site has professionalized over their approximately 25 years of existence. Their officers and board are very knowledgeable and have represented a number of disciplines. For approximately ten years they have sponsored wonderful talks on history and science every second Sunday of the month. Throughout their existence they have sponsored many special events at Hopewell Furnace. Hopewell Furnace has a small staff. Friends members have facilitated and staffed events and projects that would have been beyond the capacity of park staff otherwise. Specialized expertise of the Friend's board members in areas such as natural resources, trails, night sky, and database and website facilitation have been invaluable to the park and its visitors."

My art style is personal and unique. It is based on a love of early Modernism, especially German Expressionism and Abstract Expressionism. My favorite painting professor liked to call me a Romantic Expressionist. (more) My art style is personal and unique.
