Cut height varies with the time of the year, location; cool season turf and turf condition. In the north, the first mow can be at 2-2.5", then raise it up to 3-3.5", then back down to 2-2.5" towards the end of the season. Height indicator numbers do not always equate to the exact cut height in inches, so it is best to actually measure. A quick field check is to use your index finger. From tip to edge of you palm is almost 3", each knuckle is almost 1" apart...this does not matter what size you are it is very close. Bagging clippings is taboo. Rather than bagging, cut again and mulch the clippings into the turf. 30-40% of your natural nitrogen is in those clippings. Bagging is an old practice and does not provide any benefit to the turf.
