(more) We're an architectural + interior design firm, and as of today, our current in-house project work has been largely unaffected.  We've continued forward with our design work, participated in video conferences, and transmitted drawings electronically.  We've had several on-site meetings, and when we have, we have taken precautions, including limiting the size of meetings, maintaining proper distances, wearing masks + gloves, and using anti-bacterial lotion/wipes. We have seen a slowdown in our under-construction projects, largely because inspectors are less available to review work in the field, or because contractors have pulled their construction crews from our jobsites, or because inspections have slowed.  But we do see increasing activity on the construction side as we move closer to the summer. We've also seen a slowdown in new work and client interviews, with potential clients refraining from face to face meetings or on-site walk-throughs.  In some cases, we can use video conferences as a substitute, but the ability to tour a project site in person is still important, especially when it comes to renovations and addition projects. We anticipate construction to ramp-up dramatically once some sense of normalcy returns.  In fact, we encourage clients to keep the design-end of projects moving forward during this time, since we expect shortages of materials, products and labor once contractors resume work, and try to make up for lost time. Stay safe out there! Ernest V. DeMaio III, Architect | Principal Tektoniks Architects www.tektoniksarchitects.com

Its not enough to put your name "out there" on social media.  Its about being tenacious, about a personal connection, and about creating lasting relationships....planting seeds that sometimes take a while to bear fruit.

It comes down to several important truisms:  1) treat each your clients as though they are your only clients; 2) build relationships, not just buildings; 3) practice in a professional way, with the highest degree of integrity and diligence; 4) always nurture these relationships, long after a project has come and gone;  5) exceed expectations, always;  6) always remember a single negative experience with a client can undue years of effort "planting seeds"....similarly, a well-maintained and positive working relationship can become an extension of your marketing department for many years;  7) repeat the process, over and over. Clients who understand your commitment and professionalism will go the extra mile for you and your business, and become your biggest advocates.  We take great pride in our client relationships, and as a result have often been the recipient of a great deal of repeat business and referrals.

Of course, our primary mission is to create beautiful places for people to live, work, and play, and provide the necessary artistic, professional and technical services to achieve those goals - so marketing our unique services and skills is essential. But ultimately, the confidence we receive from our clients, colleagues, and collaborators relies upon their understanding of the individuals who comprise our firm. Once they understand our dedication, our integrity, our commitment to professionalism, and our honesty, we are then able gain each other's full faith and trust, and work together confidently and successfully on our projects from beginning to end...and onto future projects as well.
