(more) Hi,  I taught school for 31 years, and when I retired, I wanted something I would enjoy doing. Thus I started my travel agency and have been selling travel for over 22 years and love it.  I am an independent agent under a large host agency here in Ohio.  They help me with problems, questions I have, and provide training regularly. I work out of my home and love not having the overhead of a brick and mortar store that brings with it a lot of bills just to stay open.  One of the first things I did that helped me get my agency known was to design and pass out business cards to family, friends, at meetings, etc. A business card and business name should have a catchy look and sound.  It will help travelers remember you. I also prepared a short "speech" when the question came up about my agency.  Be sure to put enthusiasm in everything you share about your business and and the places you have visited. Enthusiasm is contagious. Include information about these places that helps you establish yourself as an expert in those areas.  What is your passion in the travel industry?  Mine is Europe. That doesn't mean you can't talk about other places, but I just love to talk about London, Ireland, the Swiss Alps, etc. I am even learning to speak German to use on my journeys. People will begin to realize that you have a wealth of information that would be helpful on a trip they wish to take.   I constantly read about new places and add the information to my files. Do you have any of the free travel magazines available to agents? If you need the names of them, email me. Yes, you will have to purchase some items essential to conducting  business--a computer, copier, printer, and some essential office supplies.  You may need to find a temporary job to purchase these, but your needed items will grow as your funds grow.   Find someone else in your area to help you learn about the travel industry. You can help each other as needed. May I ask?  Where do you live?   I hope this will help you.   Happy traveling, Nancy "Son"shine Tours, Inc.
