How We Got Started

17 yrs ago I set out to find solutions to my thinning and balding hair. After numerous consultations with hair stylists and doctors, I was repeatedly told there were no options for my thinning/balding other than wigs. I was not going to just cover it up as suggested so I began my trials on my own hair while shadowing my brilliant mentor and I took every hair extension course I could. I have been accredited and certified with over 70 of the top extension methods and brands in the world. Through my career I have met the most amazing men and women struggling with the same issues that I had. I have made it my mission to offer help to those of us that conventional "hair extensions" couldn't help. I have taken bits and pieces from the education and certifications and developed my own custom technique that can help even those who have been turned down for hair extensions in the past. My passion comes from wearing hair extensions daily and livwith the same hair issues as all of my clients.

Coming from Boston Ma I had tried to find numerous photographers to work with that would grasp simple concepts for portraits. Not only did Richard completely out do the photographers in Boston but his vision created what I hadn't even imagined possible! Theres a lot of people out there with cameras calling themselves professional photographers yet all their images are so edited and filtered it looks like a Pinterest board. Richard has true vision and he photographs actual everyday people and highlights the person not the same pose and shot you see everyone else copying! I can not recommend Richard's photography enough! That entails that no one should know they are wearing extensions otherwise if they didn't care who knew they would get cheap clip ins from sallys. The 2nd type have flat out told me they would tell their girlfriends but then they would have gorgeous hair too and they want the better hair, they feel like its their best feature when comparing themselves and also they don't want me to be so busy that they cant get in because their friends book up my appts...so its a tough one! Referrals are the best compliment a client can give but it's just an unfortunate part of today's world that people can be a bit oblivious that for some, not referring people can actually hurt a business. I can guarantee that clients would not like it if a business had to raise prices to cover more advertising and marketing but unless the client has owned a business themselves few would understand;) With everyone wanting to be influencers and the first to know about something they usually share things they dont care about and hold onto important thibgs so take it as a compliment! I will usually offer them something special such as a gift bag of newly released products to try that I KNOW they will love and its made about 20% of them feel guilty for not telling their friends and they actually do refer people eventually;)

(more) Personally 19yrs soley as a hair extensionist social media has never been something that could work for me. I know most are probably shaking their heads at me but hear me out.. I work with girls, women and men who have balding/thinning hair issues due to one reason or another such as post chemo survivors, hormonal or medical issues even those with afflictions such as trichitilomania where they cant control pulling their own hair out. As someone who lost all my hair at 14(started at 11) I live with what my clients face every day. Being the only bald girl in hair school one can understand my hate of pictures! Many of my clients have been through a double mastectomy and lost their hair. As a woman you have your hair and your boobs, that's what makes us feel different from men. Taking before and after pictures when the before picture is only taken because that person finally felt so bad about themselves they got over the embarrassment of reaching out to someone like me because they just felt that bad about themselves is not something I would do. I would NEVER post or ask to post on social media for millions of people to be able to judge them or me. Accept it or not but social media is such an unhealthy obsession for people today. I truly thought when social media cane out that it would be a good thing because it would be harder for people to be fake and lie especially in a world where a business can pay to rank somewhere there is no way to trust any of it and here's why.. EVEN if a business is horrible at what they do they wouldn't dare post about it so then it's left to the client that had the horrible service to share on social media their awful experience. That's the problem... every single person goes onto any social media and does what? Compares themselves to all the pages and tweets and Insta feeds they see. What do you see? Well that girl who looks so damn flawless.. She edited the hell out of the 72 selfies she took while she kept trying to get ONE that looks NOTHING like her and when after 72 of the SAME damn pose she has to run it through 4 different editors before she dare post it to the page where 100's of other fake pictures live. Or you get the girl that posts about her Aruba vacation with the love of her life and how blissfully happy they are yet the main reason for the trip was to see if they could salvage the marriage because perfect hubby there spent all their savings on a stripper named kiki he met on Tinder. See the theme here? It's bad enough you can't even Google "best heart surgeon" and actu ally find the best your actually shown the one with the most malpractice claims and who has the money to pay to be placed there! Social media is in no way real or where I would want to find clients. They are completely fooled into 90% of what they are shown on social media and I'm sure y'all can think of some business pages that just damn lie and who would know if they did? When it comes to beauty services at least, even if someone had a bad experience, social media is the LAST place they would post being fooled, ripped off or left bald from bad hair extensions! They stick to the perception of perfection. Maybe if I had ever done anything other than just hair extensions Id feel different but personally I don't have time or patience to take 100's of calls from 15yr olds that see Kylie and think they should be able to have extensions too, although I do everything myself so again it may be different if I had other staff but even just prom time locally here and I'm over it! Lol

I dont think it necessarily is about a specific time or certain meeting. I've been to some with hundreds of people in my own industry and nothing came from it. I've been to dinners with people in IT field and connected with almost everyone there! I think its more what you make of it! (more) For me personally I have found client referrals to not only be the best source of marketing but the people that follow a referral are the exact type of client you want! They have come to you after speaking to one of your current customers so they likely already have made the descision to use/purchase your service. I find lots of business owners are so focused on where the next client will come from they miss the huge opportunity already there, the client they have now! If you take care of the clients you do have right now and show them why they made the right choice coming to you, they are your mobile advertisement and your walking 5☆reviews! They will tell everyone they know about you..why? Well partly because everyone likes to brag that they have the "best" person doing "_______" and also they care about you for taking care of them! So saying something like "Referals are the greatest compliment we could receive" Focus more on the clients you have rather than the ones you dont:

(more) If it was me, I'd join some genealogy FB groups and share some collected clients stories and testimonials to show people what is possible. Even if you start with your own experiences if you lack customer stories as your still building your business. Donate something like a free 1hr (or however long) to a local event that raffles off prizes for charity and offer to pull some ideas for this person's heritage trip. I would then reach out to Europe and other countries your clients would be visiting. They have all sorts of programs such as you register in Scotland (for example) to stay at an old historic castle. You pay minimal fees for the meals and few excursions they take the group on but you help an archaeological team restore/renovate areas of the castle as payment for a place to stay! They are such a fantastic opportunity for people to be a part of history helping to renovate and restore old homes, castles and churches along side a group of archaeologists that dont have a budget to hire a full team(you can tie into their heritage)! Perhaps set up a working relationship with these organizations where they also help you to plan their trips while abroad and show them around their area as a tour guide of sorts and everyone wins! By building these relationships with such organizations you will then be able to market your services using these names of historic locations and link to them showing your authority over someone who states the possibilities. You will actually have connections to these places:) Good luck and love the concept!

If you use your looks or sexuality to feel better about yourself or to get ahead in your career then deal with the attention. It makes cases of TRUE harassment harder on those women that actually get harassed.

Ever since they came around the people that price shop, no matter how good your service is, they will bounce on to the next deal they find. Not one client that came to you becauae of a discount will ever want to pay a full price. Not ever. Now if you have a business that you dont care to have repeats then discounts will definately work to get them in 1 time but dont count on more than that! Now I DO believe in rewarding loyal clients with extras through out their different services. I find the reason people dont know or can't comprehend why certain people offering same services can vary in price. I see this as a tremendous opportunity! Teach them, educate them and take the time to show them something new that no one has before and most important make your experience something they cant find somewhere else! This shows them you are not like every other person offering the same services and that you are worth what you charge! I offer a free service for referrals but i inky offer to long time loyal clients and they feel special knowing the people they referr dont all get the same gift of appreciation:) I own a hair extension salon so I will give them a "swag bag" of new products that I purchase at the many hair shows I go to through out the year. Its always new products that havent hit the market yet and they love to get it before most people can:) i also do giveaways for my best clients when they referr people to me so we both win! Good luck!

If your salon is known for color then you focus on your colors and what makes you different from every other salon doing the same thing! A lot will depend on your prices for services. Personally I dont do social media. I own a hair extension salon(the first salon to do JUST hair extensions in TX) I specialize in thinning/ balding hair due to chemo, medication, hormones etc. First my clients would not want to be showcased as "before and after" pictures for strangers to know what they pay lots of money to hide. Think of it like getting a boob job.. you would be hesitant to leave a review exclaiming that you have fake tits or letting them use your before and afters right? I mean the Dr is great and all but do you really want people knowing your boobs are fake?! Prob not;) SECOND is for me, my clientele is not on social media. If I was putting my efforts towards that then offering free consultations as I do, I'd have my days full of 13-20 yr olds wanting free info with never having the money to have a service done. Local listings (free dont ever pay to be listed) may take time to set up but it is worth it! Make a spread sheet while you go so you wont ever not be able to change info if needed. Reviews from clients on google(not yelp unless you like yelp) speak volumes because even if people find you on Facebook or wherever they will always go to look up your address in Google maps! Specialize in something and be the best damn one in town! Dont do "discounted" promos like Groupon or offering $$ off..those clients will always want to pay that discounted price. Know your worth and your customer. Ask yourself what youd like your potential clients tickets would be worth, then think about who that client is and where they are likley to spend time..online Google search? Facebook? Instagram? Then you are 75% there. Last part is to get their attention like I said be the best at what they would potentially be looking for and show them why you are the best. Be yourself and be honest and truthful they will come! Good luck!

If there is just a star and no written experience, reach out (call them personally) if they are in fact a client and let them know you are so sorry to hear they had a bad experience and ask for them to please reach out so that you can help to correct whatever issue they had with their last visit! Offer to discount 10% off their next visit if they would let you try again and reiterate that everyone there always trys to give their clients the best possible experience possible but welcome feedback to help us improve. Its hard to write that when you may not have done anything wrong or it didn't happen the way they claim but others reading the review will see how you handle yourself! If it is not left with a name that you have as a client then state that something like this: Unfortunately after checking our system we are unable to locate anyone that is a customer of ours with the name left here for this review. It's disheartening to think this is a fake review but it does happen. If this was an error kindly remove your rating as it would be unfair for potential clients to get the wrong impression of our business. Thank you You can attempt to contact the business where the review was left and attempt to have them take it down but that seldom works so best bet is to reply as genuine as possible and then get lots of other happy clients to drown out the 1 bad review with their awesome ones! Hope that helps!
