Years ago I experienced two situations which taught me valuable lessons. When still quite young and just starting in the business world, I took a job as a bookeeper/ office manager at a small novelty company. It was truly a mom and pop shop with me as the middle man. There were two glaring issues.(1) their business was a true jumble of thousands of novelty items completely dis organized and a mess (they knew where everything was but you could not find anything); and (2) their bookkeeping system and office functions were the most totally bizarre o had ever dreamed of. They had had a bookeeper/office manager for over 20 years. The same woman had done the job all that time. She had established a system which worked for her but which no one could figure out. the mom and pop owners had no idea how the system worked but they expected me to figure it out. i departed mid-second day, I valued my sanity. years later, my second wife had some friends who owned a small family operated Casino near Reno, NV. They needed someone with my expertise to help them expand their business. Unfortunately I agreed to be that someone. Virtually everyone who worked there wwa s some how related ro the owners. There were so many inner family dynamics at work there you needed a scorecard to know who disliked whand who was stabbing who in the back or whatcousinwas sleeping withwhose wife or husband , or who was makibg a power play to ace out someone in higher position. I quickly learned that two things are certain in family businesses, (1) families fight in business at leastas bad as in basic family life ,and (2) you never get yourself mixed up in family in fighting you are the outsider and it is a no win situation. You will never be part of the family. The better job you do the more jealous some people will be. Even if you were to marry intothe family you would still be the interloper . My best advice, seek another job you will like. You are in a no win situation .

I would say one prime consideration for virtually everyone seeking space is...The RIGHT location. Do you need heavy traffic, lots of foot traffic? Do you need high visibility? Do you need or want to be near kindred businesses? The location must be right for your type business. Another prime consideration is size. How much space do you need. There are few bigger mistakes than signing a lease on a too small space. Cost is crucial for almost every business. Can you afford the space. Ammenities. Does the space have everything you need. Services. Are all the services you require redily ck? if you fail to answer all these questions and more, your chances for successa are limited.
Far more rewarding than awards or financial gain is encouragement and positive feedback from fans and supporters who love the music and other things i create. While it is wonderful to win an award, recieve a recognition from some group etc , and of course fanancial reward is what makes it a...

Far more rewarding than awards or financial gain is encouragement and positive feedback from fans and supporters who love the music and other things i create. While it is wonderful to win an award, recieve a recognition from some group etc , and of course fanancial reward is what makes it a business and not just a fun hobby; but, by far, recieving direct comments, praise, encouragement from those who listen, love and buy the music, attend the theater, etc. is what truly keeps me creating and working to bring music. theater, film, tv etc. to life. Nothing is more rewarding than hearing a fan say that my music makes their lives better, keeps them going, makes their days brighter. To know you have touched a heart and mind in a positive way, brought laughter or tears, is the pinacle of success.

Frankly I would prefer to be a teammate who gives 1000% every time on a team of players who all give their all...all the time. If you "leave it all on the field", as they say, each time you take the field you have done all you can do. You can be a star. You can be the "main attraction". You can be the engine that makes the car go. But a great team is not one person. The LA Lakers are discovering that you can bring on board a superstar of the highest magnitude and still lose if the team does not work together. You can be the big cog in the machine, but if all the other cogs do not turn the big cog is stuck in limbo.
They tell me I have a great talent for attracting talented people and allowing them to do their thing. So, I do not want to be the best player on a losing team or the worst player on a winning team. I prefer to be the talented core of a talented team who acts as the cohesive force to bond all the elements together into a well functioning group. Every great team is made up of individuals big and small who all do their part, no matter the gravity of that part, and allow thier teammates to do thier parts even if lend teammate shines brighter. Being the hero is wonderful, buy allowing the hero to step up can be just as important.
I have a simple one word answer for you, though nothing is ever that simple. SPECIALIZATION! It is truly hard for small business people to carve out a huge piece of the Travel market! The big companies have existed for years and have co-opted most of the "deals" long ago! So what you need to do...

I have a simple one word answer for you, though nothing is ever that simple. SPECIALIZATION! It is truly hard for small business people to carve out a huge piece of the Travel market! The big companies have existed for years and have co-opted most of the "deals" long ago! So what you need to do is seek your niche. A good jump off place would be to look around your local area and see if there are enough areas of interest and "fun" to fill a nice vaccation or spur-of-the-moment trip. If i were venturing into Travel Agency work, and I am NOT, I would have an edge of sorts since Fort Myers and the Southwestern Florida area is repleat with "fun" and sun and water and GOLF and lots of sights to see! There is something for just about everyone! It is Family friendly, couple friendly and even single traveler friendly! What does your local area have to offer? What do nearby areas have to offer? If you just have to try International travel, where are your Family roots? Are you Irish, English, French, German, Spanish,???? Learn all that you can, and with the Net that is easy, about the place where your Families journey began (we all hail from somewhere). If you must venture into an area of the US with which you are not familiar, choose something less travlled (The road not taken). You do not need to be a heavily travelled Agent to sell travel. You simply need to do great research and have an insatiable curiosity for Travel!

As to raising funds to make your effort successful I suggest that you and your intern reach out to the Corporate world and seek donations . Also connect with foundations that can help. Plus consider connecting with a large company that deals in such markers. See if they might consider donating markers or providing discounts to your people in need. When hunting for answers, turn over every rock you see. you never know where the best solution may be hiding. also consider Go Fund Me and other such platforms to raise funds. Best Wishes
As much as I love the enthusiasm of those "networking beasts ", I must agree with those introverts who suggest that networking us just a PC way of saying cold calling. instead of selling a product face to face you are selling YOU. And, as one who is introverted, that is your worst sell possible....

And, as one who is introverted, that is your worst sell possible. For me it was always easy. I had zero issue with standing before the biggest of crowds and speaking. I began acting in Plays and Musicals in Middle School, played in the School band for years ( small school), was the only young person in our Church unafraid to pray aloud in front of the entire assembly. So I can relate to being able to network, shine, so at and selling myself has never been an issue. But I also have known, and often loved, many introverts in my lifetime. I married two and my yet again marry one more. But that does not help your issue.
To me, the mere fact that you reached out to this group for help tells me that you are a viable business person. Your writing style shouts intelligence. So there are many avenues for you to explore. My first suggestion for you would be looking into working at home. Where you cannot go one on one face to face, you may shine reaching out thru a computer. You may even find your "voice" enough to do phone sales or promo, since you do not actually have to "look at" the client you deal with. Take stock of what you find most interesting in life, things you are passionate about, and that is where to direct your indoor outreach. You may be able to turn your ability to write into another Avenue. Start by blogging. Do a blog about being introverted. See if you have any articles, stories, novels, self-help books etc. "inside you" that may pour out into a non-judgemental keyboard just fine. Maybe you are the next great product creator, inventor, etc. Some of the best writers, creators, inventors the world has ever know were introverts who worked alone in their "safe space". There are more and more companies using "at home" workers every year. It can be a win/win situation for both the worker and the employer. In other words....make the most of what you have . Turn being introverted into a cottage industry. You can do it.. I can feel that in you. You don't have to be throw yourself out on life's stage to excell. Best wishes.

Of course my business does not depend on walkin traffic, but I can comment on this. Here in the Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Naples area of Southwest Florida there are many such Holiday events. They tend to target specific areas. There is a few events that target the Downtown Fort Myers area, and other events for Cape Coral and Naples. Also major malls such as Gulf Coast Town Center have special events to draw lots of foot traffic. This is a very Hoiday intensive area. And as ihav et been told, these events increase foot traffic and business several times over. Frankly, any event which draws positive attention to your specific business area is well worthwhile. As the Lottery promo says "you can't win if you don't play"; it is equally true that you cant do business if potential customers do not know you are there.

Putting yourself out there and letting like mided and associated busineses learn more about you and SEE who you are is alwasy good!! Pick your locations and the right Shows. It is much like "pick your battles"..never waste time and resources...RESEARCH!!
