Hire an experienced marketing person who can build a website, do SEO and set up PPC and social media. Make sure that page copy matches frequently searched terms and the site is properly indexed by search engines. Be sure to claim Google My Business page as well as Yelp and other listings. There are really too many details for a non-professional so trying to do it yourself will lead to frustration.

We have long known that it is a bad idea to put text into images, and PDF files do not get crawled by search engines. In an age of all kinds of plug ins and animations, the simple approach is still the best. Text, images without text, and no speed robbing scripts. Page load speed has become a major issue because of the shift to mobile devices. Also, Google now rates sites based on speed. Unfortunately, many business websites were built with WordPress which often carries a huge speed penalty because of the large number of files needed to load a page. Also, WordPress generates pages on-demand, so if the server is slow producing the support files, the page can take too long to load. I have seen a websiste that took 28 seconds to load that when rebuilt with static code loads in under 3 seconds. Google has a speed test for you to check your website: https://testmysite.thinkwithgo... Also, if you want detailed reporting on which resources are causing the problem you can use https://tools.pingdom.com/ . We use only hand coded HTML, CSS and JavaScript to build web pages which load very fast and are fully responsive. (mobile friendly) All of the best SEO, good page content, great images, video etc. is meaningless if your site visitor clicks away because your page took too long to load. I believe instead that relationship building is the best approach to any sales and marketing endeavor. You may not get the big commission first time out, but you will create a portfolio of loyal clients that will come back for your services many times. Cost of acquisition for new clients is always high, and in the long run building relationships is not only more ethical, but more cost effective.

(more) Getting Google to "recognize" your business is not exactly the best way to describe what the problem is. There are several different ways that Google will show your business: organic search results, Google My Business (maps), pay-per-click search and display ads, and third party listings like Yelp. The best answer is to do all of these things as even very local searches produce a very large number of results and it is very unlikely that your business will show up unless many different things are done correctly. You need to start with good SEO (search engine optimization) practices, and then get your site listed in Google My Business. And, in all fairness, if you site is not getting traffic, it will not gain relevancy with search engines. The best way to get your business in front of potential customers is to use a combination of search and display ads that are targeted geographically. It is by no means a simple thing to do, and you should hire an experienced marketing person or agency (like myself) to accomplish this.

If you are offering good value for your service, stick to it. You know the difference. If you don't get that customer, they will go to your competitor and make them crazy. Either way, you benefit.

I did direct mail and catalogs between 1986 and 1996. After that I stopped because it no longer made sense to pay so much for mailing and printing with a limited reach. Don't bother with a print catalog. Start with Etsy, and pur up a online store next. (more) I did direct mail and catalogs between 1986 and 1996. Your best chance is with Google My Business (formerly Google Maps listings) where near your location you will show on map results. Other types of organic search results are text and image and video, all of which are not as geographically oriented as maps. Websites with history, lots of traffic, and back links will almost always dominate organic search results. Of course good SEO practices like well written meta tags and relevant, key word rich copy are important, but those take time to have effect. The best answer is to advertise with AdWords and/or plan on a long term strategy which might include social media, blogs, and similar pages linked to your website to build your page rank. I should point out that recent updates to search algorithms make traditional SEO tricks like link farms and link exchanges all but useless. Google wants you to spend money for that first page, and they make every effort to disable any technique that gets you first page results without doing so.

People are pretty used to the .com in urls, so I would recommend removing that spelling and replacing it with GetLessStress.com. You could also add getlessstressdotcom to your meta description or at the end of your meta title in the short term for those who are still looking for that spelling. Once you have done that, you can request Google to update your site with Google Webmaster Tools and ask to "Fetch as Google" to update what terms Google associates with your site. Also, out of curiosity, I put your site into Google's Speed test and your site comes up as poor. (13 second load time and estimated 31% of visitor loss) This is important because ranking in Google is affected by load speed and what is called "bounces" where people return to search without viewing your site. This could be improved by sizing and optimizing the images on your site. Here is a good online image optimizer, and another speed test to show which images are large and slowing your load time. It should be noted that the Google speed test is an emulated 3G connection, where the Pingdom test is speed to their server. Be sure to use the closest server to your location for testing.
