I believe business is not only what you know but also equally important is, who you know. People work with who they know, like and trust. I like to go to any function strictly to see what I can do for others, not what others can do for me.
I look back at my early days in printing; how I would pass out my business cards like they were cocktails. Not even get to know on a surface level with anyone. It was almost a game of how many cards could I pass out and collect. I would be amazed at how no one would ever call me back or even know who I was when I would reach out to them. This is because I wasn't interested in what they did or could offer and did not make a connection on a human level. This is what will get you remembered.
My favorite quote to remember while at a business function is to "be interested not interesting." Use this at your next event and see the difference.
