Since we are a very small company we personalize with cash, food, and or gifts based upon what we feel our employee would appreciate the most, larger companies typically do something more generic and less personable.

Yes, I would make it time sensitive and give specialized discount for locals in the same building or close by. Make it something that is affordable with a low margin very attractive if your trying to generate new business.

Some of my biggest sales came from folks that look like they slept in their clothes, once I had a customer walk in with a brown bag and everybody ignoredhim except me, I approached him and he was very thankful and I sold him a $10,000 system which he paid for with the cash from that lil' brown bag !

What I look for is sincerity, honesty, and integrity. I try to ask open ended questions that should be answered without a simple yes or no. If you can get them to open up to you by allowing them to feel comfortable the job seeker will usually reveal more than they intend. I ask a lot about what they like most about there prior job as well as what they liked least. Also what they would do differently at their next job to make themselves a better person and employee. Let them talk more but control the direction of the conversation. If it feels like a conversation and not an interview you will get more insight in my opinion.
